Hammond may
build a bridge,
&c.

II. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the said Margaret and Harriet
Hammond shall have (all power and authority to build and erect, at the place commonly called Ham-
mond's Ferry, on Patapsco river, a bridge across the river Patapsco, which said bridge, when erect-
ed, shall be of sufficient width for all carriages to pass and repass over the same; and it shall and
may be lawful for the said Margaret Hammond and Harriet Hammond, and all and every person and
persons claiming under then), to ask, demand and receive, for the term of twenty-five years here-
after, as toll or a compensation for the safe transportation over the said bridge, according to the
following rates, to wit: A single person, three cents; a man or woman and horse, twelve and a
half cents; a four wheeled carnage of pleasure or burthen, with four horses, oxen or mules, and
the driver, if loaded, seventy-live cents, if light, fifty cents; a four wheeled carriage of pleasure or
burthen, with two horses, oxen or mules, and the driver, if loaded, sixty- two and a half cents, if light,
forty cents; a carriage with two wheels and one horse, twenty cents; a cart with two wheels, witli
two or more horses, oxen or mules, and the driver, if loaded, thirty-seven and a half cents, if light,
thirty cents; horned cattle, each four cents; horses, each six cents , sheep and hogs, each two cents

And make a
causeway, &c.

III. AND BE IT ENACTED, That the said Margaret and Harriet Hammond, and their assigns,
shall have full power and authority to make a causeway, by filling up the shoals and flats on the
south side of said river to the channel thereof; provided, that the said channel be kept open two
hundred feet wide at least; and provided always, and it is the true intent and meaning of this act,
that the said Margaret and Harriet Hammond, and all persons claiming under them, shall not be
permitted, in virtue of any power vested in them by this act, to obstruct, or in any manner impede,
the passing and repassing of any vessels of any size, description or name, up and down the said river
Patapsco, but that the said Margaret and Harriet Hammond, and all those claiming under them,
shall be obliged to have a free passage kept open, either by a drawbridge or otherwise, for all ves-
sels of every size or description to pass and repass through the said bridge; and provided also, that
the said Margaret and Harriet Hammond, or their assigns, shall enter into bond, with security, to
be approved of by Baltimore county court, to finish the said bridge within the term of three years,
and keep the same in repair during the term of twenty-five years, and to comply with the terms and
conditions enjoined on them by this act.

Not to affect
the rights of

ethers, &c.

IV. AND, whereas the said Margaret Hammond and Harriet Hammond own and possess the land
on the south side of the said river Patapsco only, on which it is contemplated to erect the said
bridge, BE IT ENACTED, That nothing in this act contained shall be construed to affect the rights
of any other person or persons, or in any manner to enable the said Margaret and Harriet Ham-
mond, or any person who may claim under them, to build or erect the same, without first obtaining
the consent and approbation of the proprietor or proprietors of the land on the north side of the
said river, in which the said bridge is also to be erected.
CHAP. CI.

Passed 7th of
January, 1804,

An ACT to authorise the levy court of Anne-Arundel county to as-
sess and levy a sum of money for the purposes therein mentioned,

Preamble.

WHEREAS it has been represented to this general assembly, by the several petitions of James
Reewarck and William Cox, of Anne-Arundel county, that they were soldiers in the late
American army, and that in consequence of wounds which they received while in the service of their
country, they are rendered unable to support themselves by labour; therefore,

Money to be
levied, &c.

II. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the levy court of Anne-Arundel
county shall be and are hereby directed and empowered, at their levy court annually, to assess and
levy on said county a sum of money, not exceeding thirty dollars, for the support and maintenance
of each of them the said James Reewarck and William Cox, and that the same to be collected and paid
annually to the said James Reewarck and William Cox, by the collector of Anne-Arundel county,
agreeable to the order of the levy court aforesaid.

CHAP. CII.

Passed 7th of
January, 1804

An ACT to increase the tolls on the Susquehanna canal, and to re-
peal the third sedion of an act, entitled, A further supplement to
the act, entitled, An act for making the river Susquehanna naviga-
ble from the line of this state to tide water.

Preamble,

WHEREAS the proprietors of the Susquehanna canal have consented and agreed to relinquish
the half tolls heretofore conditionally granted upon the bed of the said river, upon the tolls
