tired dollars, with such security as the said justice shall approve of, for his personal appearance at
the next county court to be holden in and For the said county, and it shall be the duty of the justice
"taking the recognisance aforesaid to make return thereof to the cterk of the county court of his
county before the next meeting of the said court.

CHAP.
LXXV.

IV. AND BE IT ENACTED, That the several county courts in this state shall give this act, and
the act to which this is a supplement, in charge to the several grand juries.

CHAP. LXXVL

Act to be given
in charge, &c

An ACT authorising a lottery for raising a sum of money for the
purchasing ground, and building a market-house thereon, in the
western precincts of the city of Baltimore.

Passed 7th of

January, 1804.

WHEREAS by the petition of sundry inhabitants of the western precincts of the city of Bal-
timore it hath been prayed, that a law may pass authorising certain persons to propose a
scheme of a lottery to raise a sum of money for purchasing ground, and erecting a market-house
thereon, in the western precincts of the city of Baltimore; and the said prayer appearing reasona-
ble, therefore.

Preamble.

II. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That it shall and may be lawful for Chris-
topher Johnson, Ebenezer Finley, Adam Walsh, Henry Stouffer, John Kennedy, George F. War-
field, Daniel Lamott and William Jessop, or a majority of them, to propose a scheme of a lottery
for raising a sum of money, not exceeding fifteen thousand dollars, and sell and dispose of tickets in
said lottery, as well in the city of Baltimore as in any other part of this state, any law to the con-
trary notwithstanding, and are hereby authorised to draw said lottery; provided, that the said
Christopher Johnson, Ebenezer Finley, Adam Walsh, Henry Stouffer, John Kennedy, George F.
Warfield, Daniel Lamott and William Jessop, or such majority of them as shall undertake to act
under this law, shall, before the sale or disposal of any ticket or tickets in said lottery, give their
bond to the state of Maryland, in the penalty of thirty thousand dollars, conditioned that they will
well and truly apply so much of the money arising therefrom, within twelve months after the draw-
ing of said lottery shall commence, as will satisfy the fortunate adventurers for prizes drawn by
them, and after deducting the necessary expences incurred in said lottery, shall, within two years
from the time the drawing of said lottery shall commence, apply the money raised by such lottery to
the purchase of sufficient ground, and erecting a market-house thereon, in the western precincts of
the city of Baltimore as aforesaid.

III. AND BE IT ENACTED, That it shall be the duty of said commissioners, before they act as
such, to lodge the bond made and entered into as aforesaid in the office of the cterk of Baltimore
county court, there to be recorded, and upon such bond, or any office copy thereof, suit or suits may
be instituted against the obligors therein, or any of them, or their legal representatives, for any
breach or non-compliance with the condition of the same.

CHAP. LXXVII.

Bond to be
lodged, &c.

An ACT to authorise and empower the levy court of Calvert county
to assess and levy a sum of money for the purpose therein mentioned.

Passed 7th of

January, 1804,

BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the levy court of Calvert county be
and they are hereby authorised and empowered, at their discretion, to assess and levy, in any
two years, a sum of money, not exceeding one thousand dollars, for the purpose of building a cterk's
office at Prince-Frederick- town, in said county, to be levied and collected as other county charges.

II. AND BE IT ENACTED, That the levy court of Calvert county have full power and authority
to contract for the building and completing the said office.

CHAP. LXXVIII.

And to con-
trad, &c.

An ACT to authorise and empower the levy court of Baltimore
county to assess and levy a sum of money for the purpose therein
mentioned.

January, 1804,

WHEREAS Patten Coleman, of Baltimore county, by his petition to this general assembly
hath set forth, that he is now upwards of sixty-five years of age, and has served six years
