CHAP. XXXVIII.

Passed 31st of
Dec. 1803.

An ACT to authorise and empower the levy court of Worcester
county to levy annually a sum of money for the support of Aaron
Faskey, Betsy Faskey, Thomas Faskey, junior, and Abigail Fas-
key, children of Thomas Faskey.

Preamble,

WHEREAS Thomas Faskey, by his petition to this general assembly hath set forth, that he
hath four children, to wit: Aaron, of the age of twenty-one years, Betsy, of the age of
seventeen years, Thomas, of the age of fifteen years, and Abigail, of the age eleven years, all
idiots and blind, and are a constant expence to him from their infancy, that be is a very poor man,
and prays that an act may pass authorising the levy court of Worcester county to levy a sum of mo-
ney for the support and maintenance of the said Aaron, Betsy, Thomas and Abigail, out of the
poor-house; and the facts stated in the said petition appearing to be true, therefore,

Money to be
levied, &c.

II, BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the justices of Worcester levy
court shall be and they are hereby directed and empowered, at their levy court annually, so long as
they shall see cause, to assess and levy on the assessable property of the said county, a sum of mo-
ney, not exceeding eighty dollars, for the support and maintenance of the said Aaron, Thomas,
Betsy and Abigail Faskey, and that the same be coll.ected annually by the collector or coliectors of
Worcester county, and paid to such person as the levy court of said county shall or may direct.

CHAP. XXXIX.

An ACT to extend the powers of the trustees of the poor of Mont-
gomery county.

Preamble.

WHEREAS Nicholas Smith, by his petition to this general assembly hath set forth, that he is a
very poor man, and is now arrived to the age of seventy years, and that by his advanced age
and bodily infirmities he is unable to support himself by labour, and prays that an act mayfpass for his
support out of the poor-house; and the prayer of the petitioner appearing reasonable, therefore,

II. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That it shall and may be lawful for the
trustees of the poor of the said county of Montgomery, if they shall be of opinion that the peculiar
circumstances of the said Nicholas Smith are such as to render a situation in the poor-house parti-
cularly unsuitable for him, to support him as an out-pensioner, in addition to the number now allow-
ed by the act, entitled, An act to enlarge the powers of the trustees of the poor in the several coun-
ties therein designated, and to allow the said Nicholas Smith an annual pension, not exceeding thirty
dollars, to be paid to him at such time or times as the said trustees shall direct; the amount of which
said pension shall be levied in the same manner as the other expences of the poor-house in the said,
county are,

CHAP. XL.

An ACT authorising a lottery to raise a sum of money for deepening
and widening a well in Taney-town, in Frederick county.

Preamble.

WHEREAS it is represented to this general assembly, by the petition of sundry inhabitants of
Taney-town, in Frederick county, that great inconveniencies have resulted to the inhabitants
thereof, and to travellers passing through said town, for the want of water, and have prayed that a
law may pass to raise a sum of money, not exceeding five hundred dollars, for the purpose of deepen-
ing and widening the well in said town; therefore,

A scheme may
be proposed,
&c.

II. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That it shall and may be lawful for John
M'Kaleb, John Crapster, Richard Brooke, Joseph Little, Henry Swope, Thomas Gibson and Michael
Null, or a majority of them, to propose a scheme or schemes of a lottery for raising a sum of money,
not exceeding five hundred dollars, and to sell and dispose of the tickets thereof; provided the said
John M'Kaleb, John Crapster, Richard Brooke, Joseph Little, Henry Swope, Thomas Gibson and
Michael Null, or such majority of them as shall undertake to act under this law, shall, before the
disposal or sale of any ticket or tickets in said lottery, give their bond to the state of Maryland, in
the penalty of one thousand dollars, conditioned that they will well and truly apply so much of the
money arising therefrom, within six months after the drawing of said lottery shall commence, as
will satisfy the fortunate adventurers for prizes drawn by them, and after deducing the necessary
expences incurred in said lottery, shall, within, twelve months from the time the drawing of said
