NOVEMBER LAWS OF MARYLAND.

CHAP.
XXXII.

validity of the title of the said John Carrere to the said property, in as much as the said Charles
Assilin Dessables was not naturalized agreeably to the laws of the United States; therefore.

Title made per-
fect, &c.

II. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the title of the said John Carrere
to the said real property shall be and the same is hereby made as perfect and complete as if the said
Charles Assilin Dessables had been naturalized agreeably to the laws of the United States; provided
always, that nothing contained in this aft shall in any manner defeat or affect any right, title or
ctaim, to the said property, or any part thereof, acquired or prosecuted by any person or persons
whatever before the passage of this act.

CHAP. XXXIII

Passed 7th of

January, 1804.

An ACT to pay the civil list, and other expences of civil govern-
ment.

Preamble.

WHEREAS those who dedicate their time, abilities and labour, to the public, ought to receive
a reasonable and adequate compensation for their services ;

Officers sala-
ries.

II. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the following officers of civil govern-
ment for the time being shall be entitled to receive at the rate of the following salaries, in current
money, for the ensuing year, to wit: The treasurer of the western shore two thousand dollars; the
treasurer of the eastern "shore four hundred and fifty dollars; the auditor eight hundred dollars; the
cterk of the council eight hundred dollars; the cterk of the senate one hundred and fifty dollars ;
the cterk of the house of delegates three hundred dollars; the printer to the state twelve hundred
dollars; the messenger to the council two hundred and fifty dollars.

Monies to be
first applied,
&c.

III. AND BE IT ENACTED, That all monies which shall remain in the treasury, after discharging
the journal of accounts, and all unappropriated money which may come into the treasury, be first
applied to the payment of the civil list for the ensuing year.

CHAP. XXXIV.

Passed 31st of
Dec. 1803.

An ACT to authorise and empower the levy court of Baltimore
county to assess and levy a sum of money for the purpose therein
mentioned.

Preamble.

WHEREAS it is represented to this general assembly, by the petition of David Parlett, of
Baltimore county, that by an act passed in the year seventeen hundred and ninety-one, to
lay out a road at the charge of Baltimore county from the Little Falls of Gunpowder to Baltimore-
town, in continuation of the road from Belle-Air to the said falls, five freeholders might be appoint-
ed, and a majority of whom might ascertain the damages resulting to any individual by opening the
said road through his lands: And whereas the said road runs a considerable distance through the
lands of the said David Parlett, and in order to ascertain the damages sustained by the said David
Parlett, five freeholders, agreeably to the provisions of said law, were appointed to estimate the
sum to be allowed to said David Parlett, and a majority of the said freeholders did, agreeably to
the provisions of said law, adjudge and award the sum of one hundred and twenty pounds to be paid
to the said David Parlett, which sum has never been paid to the said David Parlett by the said
county; therefore,

Court to assess
money, &c.

II. BE IT ENACTED, by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the levy court of Baltimore county
be and they are hereby authorised and required to assess and levy, on the inhabitants thereof, the
said sum of one hundred and twenty pounds, for the use of the said David Parlett, in full payment
of the aforesaid sum awarded to him.

CHAP. XXXV.

Passed 31st of
Dec. 1803.

An ACT authorising a lottery to raise a sum of money for the pur-
pose of finishing the German lutheran and German presbyterian
church in Woodsberry, in Frederick county.

Preamble.

WHEREAS it is represented to this general assembly, by the petition of the German lutheran
and German presbyterian congregations residing in and contiguous to the town of Woods-
berry, in Frederick county, that the said church in Woodsberry, Frederick county, is in an unfinish-
