y.e 25.th 1676 & in y.e second yeare of the Dominion of Charles
Absolute Lord & Proprietary of y.e Province of Maryland &
Avalon

In answer to Robertt Burgis

This Day Came Samuell Winslow of New England Merchant unto y.e
& Demanded of James Ringgold and Henry Hosier y.e sume of
tenn thousand pounds of tobacco & on y.e behalfe of one M.r Brimson
and himself bouth of the Collony of New England y.e s.d sume of tenn
Thousand pounds of tobacco & Caske Being upon y.e Amoun.t of
Rob.t Burgis of the Collony & Place afores.d in Expecttation of y.e sale
of the Land & Plantation of Thomas South Late Deceas.t The s.d
James Ringgold & Henry Hosier being y.e fesses in trust to the
last will & Testament of the s.d Thomas South as also y.e Attornys
of y.e heirs of the s.d South for to make sale of the Land & Plantation
afores.d The s.d James Ringgold & Henry Hosier saith that in
Persuante of the trust in them Reposed: They gained y.e possesion of
y.e s.d Plantation in y.e yeare of our Lord sixty & fewer &s for the
Proper use & Behalf of s.d heirs of the Deceased Lett y.e Plantation to
Rent to William Smith and Jone his wife the s.d Jone being y.e Admin.sx
equally Concerned w.th Doct.r Richard Tillman as to y.e Receiving the
Personall estate of y.e s.d M.r South as by will Appeared: And having
sealed A Lott to y.e s.d W.m Smith and Jone his wife took bond of y.e
s.d Smith and Jone his wife in y.e Penall sume of twenty thousand
Pounds of tobacco and Caske for y.e quiate and Peacable desireing
of the s.d Plantation: as also y.e rent at y.e end of y.e yeare But so it is
notwithstanding y.e s.d bond y.e s.d Smith Refused to Deliver y.e s.d plantation
as afd the Rent Couinanted for where Apon James Ringgold saith
that then he produced to Rob.t Burgis y.e Attorny of the heires of
South y.e Lease & bond taken as afores.d and went w.th y.e s.d Burgis to one
Mathew Warde of Chester River an Attorny att Law: and there w.th
y.e s.d Burgis Delivered y.e s.d Warde y.e bond: and the Leace taken of
Smith as aboves.d Then also the s.d Rob.t Burgis Delivered unto y.e s.d
Ward two severall Letters of Attorny brought by y.e s.d Burgis from
y.e s.d heirs of the s.d South and also severall Depositions taken for
to prove y.e  Lawfullnes of y.e s.d heirs to y.e estate of the s.d South
