764 Command was given to the sheerif of Kent County y.e 26.th day of June Anno Dom 1697 that he cause Eliz.a Lipsey if she should be found in his Bailiwick soe that she be and appeare before his Maj.ties Justices att the Next Court to Answer unto such matters &c.a Att which Court viz the 24.th day of August Anno Dom 1697 the day of the Returne of sd Writt came Cap.t Edward Sweatnam high sheerif of sd County and made returne of sd Writt in these words following viz Cepi p me Edw Sweatnam sheft On which day the said Elizabeth Lipsey being called appeares & being sworne to Answer such questions as should be by the Court proposed upon her Oath declares that Michael Earle is the Father of her Basterd Child Ordered that the said Elizabeth Lipsey be Committed into the sheerif his Custody until security Given Simon Wilmer Clk Court Adjournes until Too Morrow Morneing 7 a clock August y.e 25.th Anno Dom 1697 the same Court sitts againe p.rsent as before M.r Elias King by vertue of a Letter of Attorney from Benjamin Blackleech doth Acknowledge a Deed to John Sutton for Fifty Acres of Land called Penrose Elizabeth Lipsey being againe called Appeares and Patrick O Bryan becomes security to this Court to save the County harmelesse from the sd Eliz.a Lipsey her Bastard Child & allsoe to pay her Fees S Wilmer Clk Eliz.a Lipsey profers a Peticon to this Court against M.r Michael Earle for haveing served him Five Yeares according to the Custome of this Country her Corne and Clothes but upon mocon made by M.r Earle the same is continued untill next Court |
