Command was given to the sheerif of Kent County the 50.th day of
October Anno Dom 1696 to take John Knott if he should be found in
his Bailiwick and him safe Keepe soe that he have his Body before
his Maj.ties Justices att the Next Court to be held for said County to Answer
unto John Baudon of London M.rcht of a plea that he render unto
him the sume of 2436.ll of Tobaccoe &c.a

Att which Court viz on the 24.th day of November the day of
the returne of the Writt aforesaid came Capt Edward Sweatnam
high sheerif of said County and made returne of the said Writt
in the sd following Words viz Cepi p Edw Sweatnam sheff

Knots late of Talbot County planter was
summoned to Answer to John Baudon of London M.rchant of
a plea that he render him the full and just sume of Two Thousand
and four hundred Thirty and six poundes of good sound and
every way well condiconed Tobaccoe in caske which to him he
oweth and from him he unjustly deteineth

And wherupon the said John Baudon by William Hemsley
his Att.rny saith that whereas the said John Knots on the 14.th
day of March Anno Dom 1686 in said County within the
Jurisdicon of this Court by his certain bill or Writing obligatory
sealed with his seale as his Act and deed delivered and here in
Court brought whose date is the same day and Yeare did bind
himselfe his Heires Ex.rs & Adm.rs to pay or cause to be paid unto
the said Jn.o Baudon the sd sume of 2436.ll of Tobaccoe quallified
as aforsaid convenient in Chester River att or before the 10.th
day of October then Next Ensueing the date of the same bill
Yett Notwithstanding the said John Knots the sd sume of 2436.ll
poundes of Tobaccoe according to the Ten.r of the same bull unto
the said John Baudon he hath not paid altho often demanded
but the same to pay he hath denied and refused to the damage
of the said John Baudon four Thowsand poundes of Tobaccoe
and therupon he brings this suit

And the Defend.t John Knots by Griffith Jones his Attorney comes
and prayeth libertie therof to imparle ^until next Court^ which is granted y.e same day
