of Kent County Greeting know yee that wee for the great trust and
Confidence wee have in yo.r Fidelityes Circumspections prudence and
wisdome have Constituted Ordained & appointed & by these p.rsents doe
Constitute Ordaine & appoint you the said William Frisby Hance Hanson
John Hinson Thomas Smith John Coppage Charles Tilden Edward Sweatnam
Philip Connor & Thomas Ringgould & Charles Hinson Come Jointly and
severally to keep the peace in Kent County  & to keep & cause to be kept
all Laws & Orders for the good Conserdacon of the peace & for y.e quiet
Rule & Governm.t of the people in all & every the Articles of the same
& to Chastise & punish all psons offending against the forme of any the
Lawes & Orders of this Our province or any of them in Kent County aforesd
as according to the forrme of these Laws & Orders shall befitt to be done We have
alsoe Constituted & ordained you & every Foure or more of you of which you
the said William Frisby Hance Hanson John Hinson Thomas Smith & John
Coppage or one of you are alwayes to be one of the Com.rs to to enquire by y.e Oathes
of good & lawfull men of yo.r County aforesaid of all and all manner of Felloneys
Witchcrafts Inchantm.ts sorceryes Magick Art Trespasses Fore Falling Ingrossing
& Extorcons whatsoever & of all & singular other misdeeds & offences excepting
matters relating to titles of Land of which Justices of the peace in England may
or ought lawfully to enquire by whomsoever or whensoever are done or pepetrated
or which hereafter shall happen to be done or pepetrated in the County aforesaid against
y.e Laws & ord.rs of this our province provided that you proveed in any of these
Causes aforesaid to take life or merter but that in every such Case you send the
psons with their Indictm.ts & the hole matter depending before you to y.e next prvincial
Court to be holden for this our province whensoever or wheresoever to be holden them to
be tryed And further we doe hereby authorise & Impower you to Issue writt & pross
& attachm.ts to hold plea of Oyer & terminer in all Actions not exceeding y.e sume of
Tenn Thousand pounds of tobacco & after Judgm.t Execucon toweard in all Causes
Civill whether reall or psonall according to the lawes orders & reasonable Customs
made & pvided in this our province of Maryland in which Causes Civil soe to
be tryed excepted as before excepted we doe Constitute Ordaine & appoint you y.e
severall & respective psons as aforesaid to be Judges as aforesaid & therefore we doe
Comand you that you diligently attend the keeping of the peace Laws & Orders & all
& singular other y.e p.rmisses & at certaine dayes appointed according to Act of Assembly
in such case made & ppvided & at such place which you or any Foure of you as
aforesaid shall in that behalfe appoint you make Inquiry upon the premiss & prform
& fulfill y.e same in forme aforesaid doeing therein that which to justice appertain
eth according to y.e Laws Orders & resonable Customs of this our province sa-
ving to us the Amerciam.ts & other things to us belonging thereof we
remand the sheriff of o.r sd County of Kent by virtue of these psents y.t or
y.e days & at the place aforesaid that you or any sum Foure or more of you
require to cause to come before you or any such Foure or more of you as aforesaid
such & soe many good & lawfull men of y.e by whom teh truth of
the p.rmisses may the better be knowne & enquire of And lastly we have appoin
ted Simon Wilmer of Kent County Gent to Clark and keeper of the Records &
proceedings in this yo.r said County & therefore you shall cause to be brought
before on y.e day & at y.e place aforesaid the Writts precepts process &
& Indictm.ts to yo.r Court & [illegible] belonging that the same may
be imparted & by a due Course determined as as aforesaid
