VOTES AND PROCEEDINGS, NOVEMBER SESSION, 1808. 63

A petition from Elizabeth M'Kay, of the city of Baltimore, praying a divorce, was preferred, read, and re-
ferred to Mr. R. Steuart, Mr. Sanders and Mr. Bayly, to consider and report thereon.

A petition from Stephen Rayner, of Talbot county, praying a special act of insolvency, was preferred, read,
and referred to Mr. Kerr, Mr. Stevens and Mr. Seth, to consider and report thereon.

Mr. Grahame, from the committee, delivers to the speaker the following report:

THE committee to whom was referred the petition of Marsham Parker, of Calvert county, report, that they
have taken the same in to consideration, and find the facts therein stated to be true, and therefore submit the fol-
lowing resolution:

Whereas it is represented to this general assembly, that negro Dick, the slave of John Parker, late of Prince-
George's county, the father of the present petitioner, (and upon whose estate the said Marsham Parker has ad-
ministered,) was tried and convicted of felony at a county court held for Prince-George's county, at June term,
seventeen hundred and eighty-six, and was by the said court sentenced to be hanged, and was valued at the sum
of one hundred and twenty pounds current money, which said negro Dick was afterwards pardoned by the go-
vernor, upon the condition of transportation; and it appearing that neither the said John Parker, in his life-
time, or this petitioner, since his death, hath received any compensation for said negro, therefore RESOLVED,
That the treasurer of the western shore pay to the said Marsham Parker, or his order, the sum of one hundred
and twenty pounds current money, the valuation of the said negro Dick.

All which is submitted.

Which was read.

A petition from Rebecca Adams, of Washington county, praying a divorce, was preferred, read, and refer,
red to Mr. Downey, Mr. R. Steuart and Mr. Bowles, to consider and report thereon.

A petition from William Delestatius, of Accomack county, in the commonwealth of Virginia, praying that
the register of wills of Worcester county may be directed to deliver him the original will of Joseph Delestatius,
deceased, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Wilson, Mr. Bennett and Mr. Hayward, to consider and
report, thereon.

Mr. Chapman, from the committee, delivers to the speaker the following report:

THE committee to whom was referred the petition of John Imeson, report, that they have considered the

same, and find, from sufficient testimony, that the petitioner was a sergeant in the Maryland line; that he was
placed on the half pay establishment as a common soldier, by a resolution of November session, one thousand
eight hundred and three. Your committee believing, as the legislature then did, that he is well worthy of the
aid and protection of his country, and having no doubt if his rank when in the army had been ascertained, that
he would have been provided for agreeably thereto, recommend the following resolution:

RESOLVED, That the treasurer of the western shore be and he is hereby authorised and directed to pay to
John Imeson, late a sergeant in the Maryland line during the revolutionary war, or to his order, a sum of money,
in quarterly payments, equal to the halt pay of a sergeant, instead of the sum now payable to him in virtue of a
resolution of November session, one thousand eight hundred and three.
All which is submitted.

Which was read.

A petition from John Richards, of Montgomery county, praying to be supported out of the poors house, was
preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Veatch, Mr. Gaither and Mr. Carroll, to consider and report thereon.

Mr. Herbert, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act to amend an act to reduce
into one the several acts of assembly respecting elections, and to regulate said elections; which was read the
first time and ordered te lie on the table.

Mr. Streett, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act to repeal part of an act to
lay out, straighten and confirm, a certain road in Harford county, passed at November session, eighteen hun-
dred and seven; which was read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.

Mr. Cottman, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act to confirm the title of
William Crockett to part of a tract of land called Hayman's Purchase, in Somerset county; which was read
the first time and ordered to he on the table.

Mr. T. N. Williams has leave of absence.

The bill authorising William Moffitt, late sheriff and collector of Kent county, to complete his collection,
Was read the second time, passed, and sent to the senate by the clerk.

The clerk of the senate delivers the further supplement to an act, entitled, An act for the better regulation
of apprentices, the bill annulling the marriage of Charles H. Tunis, and Harriett his wife, of Anne-Arundel
county, the bill annulling the marriage of William Hines, and Mary his wife, severally endorsed, " will pass. "
Ordered to be engrossed. The further additional supplement to an act, entitled, An act for erecting buildings
for the use of the poor in Queen-Anne's county, and for other purposes the bill authorising Benjamin Ray,
late sheriff and collector of Montgomery county, to complete his collection, and the bill to incorporate the pre-
sident and directors of the Baltimore water company, severally endorsed, " will pass with the proposed amend-
ment; " which amendments were read. Also an act, entitled, An act for the appointment of a bailiff to the
