VOTES AND PROCEEDINGS, NOVEMBER SESSION, 1808. 37

RESOLVED, That the treasurer of the western shore be and he is hereby directed to pay unto John Trueman,
of the city of Annapolis, or to his order, the sum of —— dollars, as a relief to him from his present dis-
tressed situation, and as a testimony of the opinion which this legislature entertains of the value and fidelity of
his services when a lieutenant in the Maryland line of the revolutionary war, and as an officer of the house of
delegates for many years.

Which was read.

On motion, Leave given to bring in a bill, entitled, An act to establish and confirm certain acts done by per-
sons holding offices of trust or profit under the government or" the United States. ORDERED, That Mr. M'Mahon,
Mr. J. H. Thomas and Mr. Hilleary, be a committee to prepare and bring in the same.

Mr. Harryman, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act authorising a lottery to
raise a sum of money for the purposes therein mentioned; which was read the first time and ordered to lie on
the table.

A petition from Jesse Jarrett, of Harford county, praying commissioners may be appointed to review a road
from the Black House, in said county, to the Pennsylvania line, and to assess the damages sustained by the pe-
titioner in consequence of said road running through his land, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Streett,
Mr. Sanders and Mr. Forwood, to consider and report thereon.

The bill to lay out and open two public roads in Caecil county, was read the second time and passed.

On motion, Leave given to bring in a bill, entitled, An act to alter, change and abolish, such parts of the
constitution and form of government of this state as relate to the manner of voting in the two houses of the
legislature. ORDERED, That Mr. Bland, Mr. Chapman, Mr. Beall, Mr. Boyle and Mr. Sappington, be a com-
mittee to prepare and bring in the same.

Mr. Seth, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act to alter all such parts of the
constitution and form of government of this state us relate to voters and qualification of voters; which was read
the first time and ordered to lie on the table.

Mr. Bowles, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act for the relief of George
Rutter, of Washington county; which was read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.

Mr. Randall, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act to lay out and straighten a
road in Baltimore county; which was read the first tune and ordered to lie on the table.

The bill authorising a lottery to raise a sum of money for the purpose of repairing the parsonage-house and
the church belonging to the German evangelical lutheran congregation in Frederick-town, in Frederick county,
and the bill for the relief of petit jurors of Baltimore county court, were read the second time and passed.

The clerk of the senate delivers the bill annulling the marriage therein mentioned, being supplementary to
an act, entitled. An act for the relief of Mary Gwinn, of Frederick county, endorsed, "will pass. " Ordered to
be engrossed. The bill to repeal part of the seventh section of an act, entitled, A further supplement to an act,
entitled, An act for the regulation and improvement of Denton, in Caroline county, endorsed, " will not pass. "
The further supplement to the act, entitled, An act relating to the public roads in the several counties therein
mentioned, endorsed, " will pass with the proposed amendment; " which amendment was read, agreed to, and
the bill ordered to be engrossed. And a letter from the governor of Maryland, enclosing accounts of the expen-
ditures in furnishing the government house, and keeping the same in repair, which was read and referred to the
committee of claims.

The house adjourns until to-morrow morning 9 o'clock.

TUESDAY, December 6, 1808.

THE house met. Present the same members as on yesterday. The proceedings of yesterday were read.

The bill for the relief of petit jurors of Baltimore county court, the bill authorising a lottery for the purpose
of repairing the parsonage-house and the church belonging to the German evangelical lutheran congregation in
Frederick-town, in Frederick county, and the bill to lay out and open two public roads in Caecil county, were
sent to the senate by the clerk.

The further additional supplement to the act, entitled, An act for marking and bounding lands, was read the
second time and passed.

A petition from Mary Hines, of Washington county, praying a divorce, was preferred, read, and referred to
Mr. Downey, Mr. Bowles and Mr. J. H. Thomas, to consider and report thereon.

A petition from Gassaway Watkins, of Anne-Arundel county, staling that he has been a revolutionary officer,
and that he is in indigent circumstances, and praying some relief, was preferred, read, and referred to the com-
mittee appointed on the petition of William D. Beall.

Mr. Angier, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act for the relief of Harriet G.
Wynkoop, which was read the first and second time by especial order and passed.

Mr. S. Thomas, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act to enlarge the powers of
the trustees of the poor of Montgomery county; which was read the first and second time by especial order and
passed.
