36 VOTES AND PROCEEDINGS, NOVEMBER SESSION, 1808.

On motion, ORDERED, That the bill for the opening and extending of Pratt-street in the city of Baltimore,
which was referred from the last session to the present, be referred to the next general assembly of Mary-
land.

Mr. Sappington, from the committee, delivers to the speaker bill, entitled, A supplement to the act, entitled,
An act to lay out and open a road to and from the mill of Joshua Howard, on Sam's creek, in Frederick county;
which was read the first and second time by especial order and passed.

The bill to confirm a sale of land made by the executors of Henry Willis to Joseph Haines, and the bill autho-
rising repairs to the old or the erection of a new gaol in Frederick-town, in Frederick county, were read the
second time and passed.

Mr. Sanders, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act to repeal the act therein
mentioned; which was read the first and second time by especial order and passed.

ORDERED; That the committee appointed to inquire into the expenses incurred by the governor and council
under a resolution of November session, 1806, for furnishing the house of delegates with desks, be and they
are hereby authorised and instructed to inquire into all the expenses in furnishing, fitting up and repairing, the
room of the house of delegates, incurred either under the said resolution, or under part of another resolu-
tion, passed at the same session, empowering the governor and council to order such repairs to be made in the
said room as to them should appear necessary.

On motion, Leave given to bring in a bill, entitled, An act for the preservation of the breed of wild deer in
Dorchester county. ORDERED, That Mr. Frazier, Mr. Dennis and Mr. Ennalls, be a committee to prepare and
bring in the same.

The house adjourns until Monday morning 9 o'clock.

MONDAY, December 5, 1808.

THE house met. Present the same members as on Saturday, except Mr. Neale. The proceedings of Sa-
turday were read.

The supplement to the act, entitled, An act to lay out and open a road to and from the mill of Joshua Howard,
on Sam's creek, in Frederick county, the bill authorising repairs to the old or the erection of a new gaol in Fre-
derick-town, in Frederick county, the bill to repeal the act therein mentioned, the bill to open a road in Frede-
rick county, and the bill to confirm a sale of land made by the executors of Henry Willis to Joseph Haines,
were sent to the senate by the clerk.

A petition from sundry inhabitants of Baltimore county, praying for a lottery for the benefit of Jerusalem
church, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Harryman, Mr. Stansbury and Mr. Randall, to consider and
report thereon.

A petition from William Gough, of the city of Baltimore, praying a divorce, was preferred, read, and re-
ferred to Mr. Bland, Mr. R. Steuart and Mr. Harryman, to consider and report thereon.

A petition from sundry inhabitants of Bladensburgh, praying a law for the purpose of building two bridges
and erecting a causeway across the Eastern Branch, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Page, Mr. Beall
and Mr. Grahame, to consider and report thereon.

A petition from Esther Jarman, of Worcester county, praying some allowance for her support, was preferred,
read, and referred to Mr. T. N. Williams, Mr. Hayward and Mr. Wilson, to consider and report thereon.

A petition from William D. Beall, of George-town, stating that he has been an officer in the late revolution-
ary army, and that he is very infirm, and praying some assistance, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr.

Chapman, Mr. P. Stuart, Mr. J. Thomas, Mr. Belt and Mr. Baer, to consider and report thereon.

The resolution in favour of Denwood Hicks was read the second time, assented to, and sent to the senate
by the clerk.

A petition from the trustees of Lower West Nottingham presbyterian congregation, in Caecil county, praying
they may be authorised to increase their real property, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Porter, Mr.
Veazey and Mr. Sanders, to consider and report thereon.

The amendment proposed to the bill authorising Thomas J. Pattison, late sheriff and collector of Dorchester
county, to complete his collection, was read the second time, agreed to, and the bill ordered to be engrossed.

The bill to repeal part of an act of assembly therein mentioned, was read the second time, and the question
put. Shall the said bill pass? Resolved in the affirmative. Which was sent to the senate by the clerk.

The bill to incorporate the president and directors of the Baltimore water company, was read the second time,
passed, and sent to the senate by the cleric.

Mr. Chapman, from the committee, delivers to the speaker the following report:

THE committee to whom was referred the petition of John Trueman, of the city of Annapolis, report, that
they have considered the same, and being satisfied "of the value and fidelity of the services of the petitioner,
both as an officer in the revolutionary war of his country, and as an officer of this house for many years, know-
ing, as they do, his distressed situation at this time from extreme indigence, and believing that gratitude and
justice combine with humanity to warrant the legislature in affording him relief, recommend the following re-
solution:
