VOTES AND PROCEEDINGS, NOVEMBER SESSION, 1807. 97

thorizing the proprietors of the French-town and New-Castle water and land stages to open a road from French-
town, in Caecil county, to intersect the divisional line between this state and the state of Delaware, at a road
laid out by the commissioners of New-Castle county, in the state of Delaware, and the bill for the opening of
Bridge-street in the precincts of the city of Baltimore, severally endorsed, " will pass with the proposed amend-
ments; " which amendments were read, agreed to, and the bills ordered to be engrossed. The bill to release to
Richard Trimble the right of the state of Maryland to the properly therein mentioned, and the bill to incorpo-
rate the contributors to the Baltimore General Dispensary, endorsed, "will pass. " Ordered to be engrossed.
The bill in favour of the representatives of Richard Hall, late of Caecil county, deceased, endorsed, ' will not
pass. " A bill, entitled, A further supplement to the act, entitled, An act for the relief of sundry insolvent
debtors, passed at November session, eighteen hundred and five, endorsed, " will pass; " which was read the
first time and ordered to lie on the table. The bill for the relief of Martin Brown, an insolvent, debtor, of
Saint-Mary's county, endorsed, " the amendments reconsidered and receded from; " and the bill was ordered to
be engrossed. And the following message:

By the SENATE, January 9, 1808.
Gentlemen of the Home of Delegates,

WE have, upon reconsideration of our amendments to the bill, entitled, An act for the relief of Martin
Brown, an insolvent debtor, of Saint-Mary's county, agreed to recede from the same.

By order, T. ROGERS, clk.
Which was read.

The following order was read.

ORDERED, That the governor and council be requested to furnish this house with information of the expense
incurred under the resolution of the last general assembly, relating to the furnishing the house of delegates with
twenty-one convenient writing desks.
And the question put, That the house assent to the same? Determined in the negative.

Mr. Kerr, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act to correct a mistake in the be-
ginning of lot number twenty-two in the town of Vienna, in Dorchester county; which was read the first and
second time by especial order and passed.

On the second reading of the bill relative to writs of capias ad satisfaciendum, the question was put, That
the further consideration of the same be referred to the first of June next? Determined in the negative.

The question was then put, That the following be added Lo said bill? " And be it further enacted, That al!
attornies of law practising in this stale shall, from and alter the passage of this act, give bond to the state of
Maryland, in the same manner as the sheriff" does, in the penal sum of ten thousand dollars, and shall be liable
in the same manner to the plaintiff or defendant, as the case may be, as the sheriff is now when he receives any
sum or sums of money on a writ of fieri facias. " Determined in the negative.

The question was then put, Shall the said bill pass? Resolved in the affirmative.

Mr. Grahame, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act for the relief of George
Gray, of Calvert county; which was read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.

A petition from sundry inhabitants of the city of Baltimore, counter to the petition for an alteration in the
charter thereof, was preferred, read, and ordered to lie on the table.

Mr. W. H. Brown, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act authorising and em-
powering the drawing of certain lotteries for the purposes therein mentioned; which was read the first time and
ordered to lie on the table.

The supplement to the act for the benefit of Margaretta Chalmers, was read the second lime by especial or-
der and passed.

The supplement to the act to incorporate the charitable marine society of Baltimore, and the bill for the bene-
fit of Jonathan Edwards and Gilbert Middleton, of the city of Baltimore, were read the second time and passed.

The following order was read.

ORDERED, That the committee of claims close the journal of accounts on the 15th instant.

And the question put, That the house assent to the same? Determined in the negative

The house adjourns until Monday morning 9 o'clock.

MONDAY, January 11, 1808.

THE house met. Present the same members as on Saturday, except the speaker.

The house proceeded to the choice of a speaker, pro tem. when Levin Winder, Esquire, was unanimously
elected.

The proceedings of Saturday were read.

The further additional supplement to the act, entitled, An act for amending, and reducing into system, the
laws and regulations concerning last wills and testaments, the duties of executors, administrators and guardians
and the rights of orphans and other representatives of deceased persons, the bill to lay out and open a straight
road from Ferguson Smith's to Marley mills, in Caecil county, the supplement to an act authorising. a lottery for
