80 VOTES AND PROCEEDINGS, NOVEMBER SESSION, 1807.

Mr. Hall, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act for the relief of Notley Maddox,.
sheriff of Prince-George's county; which was read the first lime and ordered to lie on the table.

On the second reading of the bill to enable Margaret Hammond and Harriet Hammond, of Baltimore county,
to erect a bridge across Patapsco river at a place called Hammond's Ferry, the question was put, That the same,
be recommitted for amendment? Resolved in the affirmative.

The house adjourns until to-morrow morning 9 o'clock.

WEDNESDAY, December 30, 1807.

THE house met. Present the same members as on yesterday. The proceedings of yesterday were read.

A petition from sundry inhabitants of Baltimore county, counter to the petition for the extension of the Falls
turnpike, was preferred, read, and referred to the committee appointed on the petition to which it is counter.

A petition from sundry inhabitants of Fells-Point, praying a road from Bond-street to intersect the York
turnpike road, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Steuart, Mr. T. Dorsey and Mr. Harryman, to consi-
der and report thereon.

A petition from sundry inhabitants of Dorchester county, praying that a law may pass to prevent wears and
hedges from being placed in the channel of Nanticoke river, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Dennis,
Mr. Henry and Mr. Frazier, to consider and report thereon.

The following resolution was read.

RESOLVED, That the executive of Maryland be requested to take immediate and effectual measures. to collect
all the arms belonging to the state, except such as have been delivered out to the volunteer corps recently
organized.

Mr. Forwood, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill entitled, An act annulling the marriage of
John M'Candless and Surah M'Candless his wife; which was read the first time and ordered to he on the table

Mr. Streett, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act to lay out and make public art
old. road in Harford county, ad Mr. T. Moffit, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled
An act authorising Nathaniel Oldham, Absalom Oldham and James Cockran, to complete their collections,

which were, read the first, time and ordered to lie on the table.

The house, according to the order of the day, resumed the consideration of the bill to regulate and discipline
the militia of this state and the question was put, That the following be inserted in lieu of the words hereto-
fore stricken out? "and each noncommissioned officer and private enrolled, notified thereof, and liable to mi-
litia duty as aforesaid, shall, within twelve months thereafter, arm himself with a good serviceable firelock, under
the penalty of a sum not exceeding five dollars, nor less than one dollar, at the discretion of a company court-mar-
tial, and. of a further sum of three dollars for every year he shall continue such neglect to arm himself as aforesaid,
except such noncommissioned officers and. privates as shall he adjudged, by a company court-martial, to be too
indigent to bear the expense of purchasing such arms. " The yeas and nays being required, appeared as follow:

Mr. Gale has leave of absence.

THURSDAY, December 31, 1807.

THE house met. Present the same members as on yesterday, except Mr. Gale. The proceedings of yes-
terday were read.
The clerk of the senate delivers the bill for the relief of Mary Gwinn, of Frederick county the bill to build
a bridge and open a road in Caroline county, the bill for the preservation of the breed of wild deer in Somerset
county, the bill to quiet the possessions and fix the lines of the lots of ground fronting on the west side of Phil-
pot-street, between Will street and Thames-street, in the city of Baltimore, the bill to authorise and empower,
the levy court of Prince-George's county, to assess a sum of money for the purpose therein mentioned, and the
