A petition from Ariana Sim, of Montgomery county, praying for a divorce, was preferred, read, and referred
to Mr. Ray, Mr. C. Dorsey and Mr. Linthicum, to consider and report thereon.
The clerk of the senate delivers the bill for the support of Elias Thompson and Mary Thompson, endorsed
" will pass with the proposed amendments; " which amendments were read the first and second time by especial
order, agreed to, and the bill ordered to be engrossed. And a letter from the presiding visitor of Frederic
county school, enclosing au account of all sums received by the visitors of said school under an act, entitled,
An act for the promotion of literature in this state, and a statement of the number of scholars in the several
departments of said school; which were read.
The house proceeded to the second reading of the supplement to an act to establish a bank, and incorporate a
company, under the name of The Farmers Bank of Maryland, and for other purposes; which being read
throughout, the question was put, That the following clause be added to said bill? viz. " And be it enacted,
That all notes offered for discount at the branch bank aforesaid, by any person, shall on the face thereof, be
made negotiable at the Farmers Bank of Maryland, and when the drawer shall, not reside in Frederick-town,
such note shall be made payable at the house of some person at Frederick-town; in all cases of notes discount-
ed at the said branch bank, notice given or left, by the proper servant of the bank, at the house where the
drawer resides, or at the house where the said discounted note shall be made payable, that such note hath be-
come due, shall be to all intents and purposes held and considered to be as completely binding on the drawers
and endorsers as if notice had been personally served on each of them. " Resolved in the affirmative.

Bank of Maryland, and for. other purposes, was sent to the senate by the clerk.
A petition from Thomas Poteet, senior and junior, of Harford county, praying a law may pass authorising
the levy court to levy a sum of money to pay the damages sustained by them in consequence of a road running
through their land, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Streett, Mr. Ayres and Mr. Briscoe, to consider
and report thereon.
A petition from Jasper E. Tilly, late sheriff of Anne-Arundel county, praying a further time to complete
his collection, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. C. D. Hodges, Mr. Merriken and Mr. Shaaff, to consi-
der and report thereon.
Mr. Stevens, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, A supplement an act, entitled,
An act to prevent free negroes from selling any corn, wheat or tobacco, without having a license for that pur-
pose from a justice of the peace; which was read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.
On motion, Leave given to bring in a bill, entitled, An act to authorise the levy court of Caroline county to
levy a sum of money on the assessable property of said county for the purpose therein mentioned. ORDERED,
That Mr. Bayard, Mr. Jump and Mr. J. Brown, be a committee to prepare and bring in the same.
The bill for the relief of John Troxal, of Frederick, county, was read the second time, passed, and sent to
the senate by the clerk.
