VOTES AND PROCEEDINGS, NOVEMBER SESSION, 1807,. 117

RESOLVED, That the executive of the state be and they are hereby authorised and empowered, to purchase,
for the use of the state of Maryland, ——— thousand stand of arms and ——— pieces of artillery, and cause the
said artillery to be mounted on carriages, and they are authorised to deliver ——— pieces of said artillery to such
companies of artillerists in this state as in their opinion shall need the use thereof.

ORDERED That the committee of claims allow to the reverend Mr. Wyatt the sum of one hundred dollars
for his services as chaplain during the present session, and that the same be placed on the journal of accounts.

On motion, Leave given to bring in a bill to establish a board of agriculture in the several counties therein
mentioned. ORDERED, That Mr. Mitchell, Mr. W. H. Brown, Mr. Brice, Mr. Belt and Mr. Winder, be it
committee to prepare and bring in the same.

Mr. Stevens, from the committee, delivers to the speaker the following report:

THE committee to whom was referred the petition of Jacob Gibson, report, that they have taken the same
into serious consideration, and are of opinion that the prayer of the petitioner is reasonable and just, and ought
to be granted; they therefore beg leave to submit the following resolution:

RESOLVED, That Jacob Gibson, having paid the balance of principal and interest of six per cent, on the sum
due from him to the state as security for Daniel Powell Cox and John Thomas, former sheriffs of Talbot county,
be and he is hereby released from the nine per cent, additional interest incurred by non-payment of the princi-
pal and interest within the time limitted by law.

Which was read the first and second time by especial order, and the resolution therein contained assented to.

ORDERED, That the committee of claims close the journal of accounts, including Thursday next.

The following resolution was read.

RESOLVED That the treasurer of the western shore be and he is required to pay to each member of the coun-

cil to the governor the sum of ——, in addition to the sum now allowed them by law, to be paid at the same
time and in the same manner, that the said sum now allowed them by law is payable.

And, on motion, the question was put, That the house dispense with the 16th rule thereof? Resolved in the

affirmative.

On the second reading of the said resolution, the question was put, That the blank therein be filled up with
the words " one hundred pounds?" Determined in the negative.

The Question was then put on " fifty pounds. " Determined in the negative.

On motion, ORDERED, That the said resolution be withdrawn.
The following resolution was read and assented to.

RESOLVED That the treasurer of the western shore pay unto John Sanders, assistant clerk to the house of
delegates the sum of one hundred dollars, as a further compensation for his services during the present session.

The amendments proposed to the further additional supplementary act to the act, entitled, An act for quieting
possessions, enrolling conveyances, and securing the estates of purchasers, were read the second time, assented
to, and the bill ordered to be engrossed.

The following resolution was read and assented to.

Whereas Frederick and Samuel Green, of the city of Annapolis, have been appointed by the managers of the
lottery for the encouragement of useful arts, authorised by an act of the legislature of Pennsylvania, to dispose
of tickets in said lottery; therefore, RESOLVED, That the said Frederick and Samuel Green be and they are
'hereby authorised to sell and dispose of tickets in said lottery in this state, any law to the contrary notwith-
standing, provided the number sold by them shall not exceed twelve hundred.

Mr Stevens from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act annulling the marriage of
James Barnes and Mable Barnes, of Talbot county; which was read the first time and ordered to lie on the

table.

Mr. Carroll has leave -of absence for the remainder of the session.

The house adjourns until to-morrow morning 9 o'clock.

TUESDAY, January 19, 1808.

THE house met. Present the same members as on yesterday. The proceedings of yesterday were read.
The resolutions in favour of. Jacob Gibson, John Sanders, and Frederick and Samuel Green, were sent to

the senate by the clerk.

ORDERED, That the committee of claims allow to John Sullivan, door-keeper to the house of delegates, the
sum of sixty dollars, for taking care of the chamber and furniture belonging to this house during the recess of

ORDERED, That the committee of claims allow to Edward Hollands door-keeper to the senate, the sum of
fifty dollars, for his trouble in taking care of the senate chamber and furniture thereof, during the recess of the
general assembly, and that the same be placed on the journal of accounts.

The following resolution was read, assented to, and sent to the senate by the clerk.

RESOLVED, That the treasurer of the western shore pay unto James Harwood, assistant clerk to the senate,
the sum of sixty dollars, as a further compensation for his services during the. present session
