and in the same manner, and at the same places, where they shall vote for members of the house of delegates. "
Determined in the negative.

The question was then put, That the following be added after the first clause? " And be it enacted, That
immediately after the senate shall be assembled in consequence of the first election, they shall be divided by lot
into four classes, and the seats of the first class of senators shall be vacated at the expiration of the first year,
of the second class at the end of the second year, of the third class at the end of the third year, and of the
fourth class at the end of the fourth year, so that one fourth of the whole number of senators may be annually
chosen. " Resolved in the affirmative.

On motion, That the following be added after the fourth clause? viz. " And be it enacted, That there shall
be elected from the cities of Baltimore and Annapolis, and the several counties in this stale, the following num-
ber of delegates to the genera! assembly, to wit: From the city of Annapolis, —; from the city of Baltimore, —;
from Saint-Mary's county, —; from Kent county, —; from Anne-Arundel county, —; from Calvert county,

; from Charles county, —; from Baltimore county, —; from Talbot county, —; from Somerset county, —;
from Dorchester county, —; from Caecil county, —; from Prince-George's county, —; from Queen-Anne's
county —; from Worcester county, —; from Frederick county, —; from Harford county, —; from Caroline
county, —; from Washington county, —; from Montgomery county, —; from Allegany county, —; which
said delegates shall be elected at the same time, and in the same manner, that delegates to the general assembly
Were before the passage and confirmation of this act, and be possessed of the same qualifications. "

The question was put, That the blank therein after the word " Annapolis" be filled up with the word " one?",
Determined in the negative. :

The question was then put, That the words " from the city of Annapolis, " be stricken out? Determined la

The question was then put, That the said amendment be withdrawn? Resolved in the affirmative.

THE committee appointed on the petition of Benjamin Clagett, of the city of Baltimore, report, that the7
have duly considered the same, and are of opinion the prayer of the petitioner is improper and ought not to be
granted, and that the petitioner have leave to withdraw his petition. All which is submitted.

Mr. Steuart, from the committee, delivers to the speaker the bill, entitled, A further additional supplement:
to the act, entitled, An act to erect Baltimore-town, in Baltimore county, into a city, and to incorporate the
inhabitants thereof, as amended; which was read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.

Mr. Winder, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act to authorise William Handy
and James Ritche to sell and dispose of the real estate of Isaac Handy, late of Somerset county, deceased;
which was read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.

The bill investing the justices of the levy courts of the several counties in this state with further powers,
Was read the second time and passed.

Mr. Kerr, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act to pay the civil list, and other
expenses of civil government; which was read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.

On the second reading of the bill authorising the Baltimore and Frederick-town turnpike road company to
erect a toll-bridge oyer the Monocacy river, the question was put, That the further consideration of the same
te referred to the first day of June next? Resolved in the affirmative.

The report of the committee on the petition of Letitia Crookshanks was read the second time, and the re-
solution therein contained assented to.

The speaker being indisposed, retired, and Mr. Winder was unanimously elected speaker pro tem.

The bill to alter the time for holding the county court of Montgomery county, was read the second time by
especial order and passed.

Mr. Bowles, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act authorising the court of

chancery to decree in the case therein mentioned; which was read the first time and ordered to lie on the table
