The bill to prevent persons from retailing spirituous liquors within a certain distance of any place of religi-
ous worship, except as is therein excepted, was read the second time, passed, and sent to the senate by the
clerk.

A memorial from Jubb Fowler, of the city of Annapolis, praying an increase of salary, was preferred, read,
and referred to Mr. Little, Mr. Merriken and Mr. Muir, to consider and report thereon.

The clerk of the senate delivers an account of taxes in the court of chancery. The bill to alter the time of
holding the county court in Worcester county, endorsed " will pass. " Ordered to be engrossed. And the bill
to authorise and empower the commissioners of the city of Baltimore to alter and extend the streets therein

mentioned, endorsed "will pass with the proposed amendment; " which amendment was read the first and se-
cond time by especial order, agreed to, and the bill ordered to be engrossed.

The house proceeded to the second reading of the bill to open and improve the road leading from Hancock,
in Washington county, to Cumberland, in Allegany county, and, on progression, the question was put, That
the 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th sections be stricken out? Resolved in the affirmative.

The question was then put, That the following be inserted after the last clause thereof? to wit: " And be it
enacted, That it shall and may be lawful for William M'Mahon, John B. Beall, Jonathan Cox, John Ryne and
Thomas Blair, or a majority of them, to propose a scheme of a lottery for raising a sum of money, not exceed-
ing twelve hundred dollars, and to sell and dispose of the tickets thereof; provided the said managers, or such
majority of them as shall undertake to act under this law, shall, before the sale or disposal of any ticket or tick-
ets in said lottery, give their bond to the state of Maryland, in the penalty of three thousand dollars, conditi-
oned that they will well and truly apply, or cause to be applied, so much of the money arising therefrom, within
six months from the time the drawing of said lottery shall commence, as will satisfy tilt fortunate adventurers
for prizes drawn fay them, and after deducting the necessary expences incurred in said lottery, shall apply the
residue of the money so raised to the improving the road herein directed to be laid out, under the direction
of the said road commissioners. And be it enacted, That, it shall be the duty of the said managers, before they
act as such, to lodge such bond in the clerk's office of Allegany county, there to be recorded, and upon such
bond, or any office copy thereof, suit or suits may be instituted against the obligors therein, or any of them,
or their legal representatives, for any breach or non-compliance with the condition of the same. " Resolved
iii the affirmative.

The question was then put, Shall the said bill pass? Resolved in the affirmative.

Mr. Aisquith, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act annulling the marriage of
Sally Lutig and John C. Lutig; which was read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.

The bill annulling the marriage of William Booth and Jane Booth, was read the second time and passed.

The clerk of the senate delivers the resolution in favour of George Fitzhugh, endorsed " dissented from. "
And the bill for the benefit of the congregation of Salem's church, in Washington county, endorsed " will
pass. " Ordered to be engrossed.

Mr. Bowles, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, A supplement to an act, entitled,
An act to establish permanent salaries to the judges of the six judicial districts in this state; which was read
the first time and ordered to lie on the table.

Mr. Carroll, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, A supplement to an act, entitled,
An act authorising a lottery to raise a sum of money to purchase a fire engine, and to purchase ground and to
build a school-house, in Rockville, in Montgomery county; which was read the first. and second time by especial
order and passed.

The supplement to the act, entitled, An act to appoint a wreckmaster for Worcester. county, was read the

second time and passed.

The further supplement to n act for the more effectual collection of the county charges in Allegany county,

was read the second time and passed.

On motion, the question was put, That the house reconsider the report on the memorial of Frederick Green?
Resolved in the affirmative.

The question was then put That the order therein contained be. stricken out? The yeas and nays being re-
quired, appeared as follow:

RESOLVED, That the treasurer of the western shore be and he is hereby authorised and required to pay to
Frederick Green, printer to the state, the sum of five hundred dollars, being a balance due to him for printing
the laws of this state compiled by William Kilty, Esquire.
