senators in congress.
The report on the petition of Thomas Jackson and Henry Haskins, was read the second time, and the resolu-
tion therein contained assented to.
A petition from Thomas Coward, of Talbot county, praying some compensation for his land whereon Oxford
warehouse stands, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Kerr, Mr. Dickinson and Mt.. Dennis, to consider
and report thereon.
Mr. Callis, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act to make public a road in
Prince-George's county; which was read the first and second time by especial order and passed;
Mr. Comegys, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act to compel the vestry of
Shrewsbury parish, in Kent county, to fulfil the contracts and engagements of the former vestry; which was
Read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.
The further supplement to an act, entitled, An act for the relief of the poor in Talbot county, was read the
second time and passed.
On motion, Leave given to bring in a bill, entitled, An act to prevent persons from retailing spirituous li-
quors within a certain distance of any place of religious worship, except as is therein excepted. ORDERED, Thai;
Mr. Merriken, Mr. Watts, and Mr. Ward, be a committee to prepare and bring in the same.

THE house met. Present the same members as on yesterday, except Mr. Hebb. The proceedings of yes-
terday were read.
The resolution in favour of Thomas Jackson and Henry Haskins, the bill to make public a road in Prince-
George's county, and the further supplement to an act, entitled, An act for the relief of the poor in Talbot
county, were sent to the senate by the clerk.
A petition from sundry inhabitants of. Frederick county, praying a road from Henry Coppersmith's to Grace-
ham, on the road leading from Hagar's-town to Baltimore, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Kuhn, Mr.
Waters and Mr. Hawkins, to consider and report thereon.
A petition from Richard Butler, of Frederick county, praying to be allowed the depreciation of pay due him
as late deputy-quartermaster, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Kuhn, Mr. Shaaff and Mr. Waters, to
consider and report thereon.
Mr. Gale has leave of absence.
A petition from sundry inhabitants, of Frederick and Washington counties, praying a public road from Ha-
gar's-town, in the nearest possible direction, to Frederick-town, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Kunn,
Mr. Bowles and Mr. Biggs, to consider and report thereon.
A petition from Elizabeth Webster, of Baltimore, county, praying she may be authorised to dispose of a le-
gacy given to her by her father, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr.. Little, Mr. Street and Mr. Bond, to
consider and report thereon.
A memorial from the. president and managers of the Baltimore and Frederick turnpike company, praying that
the state may. subscribe to the capital stock of said company, was preferred, read, and ordered to lie on the table.
The clerk of the senate delivers a letter from Philip Reid, Esquire, accepting his appointment as senator in
the senate of the United States; which was read. The resolution in. favour of John C. Bond, endorsed"assented
to with the proposed amendment; " which amendment was read the first and second lime by especial order and
agreed to. The resolution in favour of William Amos, endorsed "assented to. " And the bill to provide a direct
mode by which information shall be conveyed to persons appointed to office by the executive. of their respective
appointments, and for other purposes therein mentioned, endorsed " will not pass. "
The resolutions relative to the act of congress for building a bridge across Patowmack river, were read the
second time by especial order, assented to, and sent to the senate by the clerk.
The supplement to an act, entitled, An act relative to the administration of justice in this state, and to re-
peal the acts of assembly therein mentioned, was read the second time, passed, and sent to the senate by the
clerk.
The bill to alter, change and amend, a road in Anne-Arundel county, was read the second time and passed.
Mr. B. Hodges, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act for the benefit of Thomas
Hodges and Eleanor Hodges, the infant children of James Hodges, late of Prince-George's county, deceased;
which was read the first and second time by especial order, passed, and sent to the senate by the clerk.
Mr. Sturgis, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act to alter the time of holding
the county court in Worcester county; which was read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.
The report on the memorial of Benjamin Harwood was read the second time, and the question put, That the
house concur therewith, and assent to the resolution therein contained? The yeas and nays being required, ap-
