Mr. Davis, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a. bill, entitled, An act to increase the salary of the
chief judge of the sixth judicial district of this state; which was read the first time and ordered to He on the
table.

The house proceeded to the second reading of the report of the committee on the resolutions of the legisla-
ture of the state of Tennessee, which being read throughout, the question was put, That the house concur
with the said report, and assent to the resolutions therein contained? The yeas and nays being required, appear-

So it was resolved in the affirmative.
Which were sent to the senate by the clerk.

The report of the committee on the resolutions of Kentucky was read the second time, and the resolutions
therein contained assented to; which were sent to the senate by the clerk.

The following resolutions were read the first and second time, unanimously assented to, and sent to the se-
nate by the clerk.

RESOLVED, That our senators in the congress of the United States be instructed, and our representatives re-
quested, to take all legal and necessary measures, to use their utmost exertions, as soon as the same may be
practicable, to prohibit the importation of slaves into the United States from the coast of Africa, the West-
Indies, or elsewhere.

RESOLVED, That the governor be and he is hereby requested to transmit copies of the foregoing resolution to
our senators and representatives in congress, also to the executives of all the differ ent states in the union, with
a request that the same may be laid before their respective legislatures for their concurrence.

The clerk of the senate delivers the resolutions in favour of John Boudy and John Newton, severally en-
dorsed " dissented from. " And the bill to authorise and empower the levy court of Prince-George's county to
assess and levy a sum of money for the purpose therein mentioned, endorsed " will pass; " Ordered to be en-
grossed.

A petition from Mountjoy Bayly, of Washington county, praying a special act of insolvency, was preferred,
read, and referred to the committee appointed on petitions of a similar nature.

The following order was read and agreed to.

ORDERED, That the committee of claims allow to Thomas O. Williams, George Calvert, William W. Berry,
Samuel D. Beck, Benjamin Belt, junior, John Castel, Francis Brown, Jonathan Parker, Samuel Shackles and
John R. Magruder, junior, or their legal representatives, the sum of two dollars each per diem, for two days
attendance, together with itinerant charges, as witnesses summoned to appear before the electors of the senate.
in September last, to give evidence in consequence of a memorial exhibited by William Lyles, Esquire, against
the seat of Edward Henry Calvert, Esquire, returned as an elector of the senate for Prince-George's county,
and that the same be placed on the journal of accounts.

A petition from sundry inhabitants of Harford county, praying a law to open and streighten a road from James
Rigbie's to the Brick meeting-house, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Forwood, Mr. Bond and Mr.
Street, to consider and report thereon.

On motion, Leave given to bring in a bill, entitled, An act authorising the levy court of Allegany county to
levy a sum. of money for the purposes therein mentioned. ORDERED, That Mr. Bruce, Mr. Briscoe and Mr.
Beall, be a committee to prepare and bring in the same.

On motion, Leave given to bring in a bill, entitled, An act to build a new gaol in Frederick county. OR-
DERED, That Mr. Waters, Mr. Hawkins and Mr. Biggs, be a committee to prepare and bring in the same.

On motion, Leave given to bring in a bill, entitled, An act vesting certain powers in the levy court of Fre-
derick county for the purpose therein mentioned. ORDERED, That Mr.. Biggs, Mr. Waters and Mr. Bruce, be
a committee to prepare and bring in the same.

On motion, Leave given to bring in a bill, entitled, A further supplement to an act for the more effectual
collection of the county charges in Allegany county. ORDERED, That Mr. Beall, Mr. Bruce and Mr. Rizer,
be a committee to prepare and bring in the same.
Mr. Little, from the commie, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act co change the place of holding
the. election in the first election district of Baltimore county; which was read the first time and ordered to he
on the table.
