VOTES AND PROCEEDINGS, NOVEMBER SESSION, 1806. 33

WEDNESDAY, Decembers, 1806.

THE house met. Present the same members as on yesterday, except Mr. B. Hodges. The proceedings
of yesterday were read.

A petition from James Dimmett, of the city of Baltimore, counter to the petition of Catharine Dimmett, was
preferred, read, and referred to the committee appointed on the petition to which it is counter.

Mr. Aisquith, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act supplementary to an act,
entitled, An act to incorporate the stockholders in the Union Bank of Maryland; which was read the first time
and ordered to lie on the table.

A petition from Juliana Cooke, of the city of Baltimore, praying to be divorced from her husband, was pre-
ferred, read, and referred to the committee appointed on the petition of Catharine Dimmett.

Mr. Street, from the committee, delivers to the speaker the following report:

THE committee to whom was referred the petition of Thomas Poteet, of Harford county, report, that they
have taken the same under their consideration, and are of opinion that the levy court of Harford county have
already full power to act on the subject, and that legislative interference is unnecessary. All which is sub-
mitted.

By order, W. DIXON, clk.
Which was read the first and second time by especial order and concurred with.

Mr. Bayard, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act to lay out and1 open a
road near the Three Bridges, in Caroline county;. which was read the first time and ordered to lie on the
table.

Mr. Watts, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act relating to the jurisdiction
of the high court of chancery, and the equity jurisdiction of the several county courts of this state; which was
read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.

The clerk of the senate delivers the following message:

By. the SENATE, December 3, 1806.
Gentlemen of the House of Delegates,

WE have to perform the melancholy duty of informing you of the decease of Mr. Thomas Duckett, a member
of the senate. As a mark of respect to his memory, we propose that the members of the two branches of the
legislature convene in the senate chamber, this day at 3 o'clock, for the purpose of joining in procession at his
funeral, and that each member of the legislature, and the officers thereof, wear a band and scarf during the
remainder of the session.

By order; T. ROGERS, clk.

Which was read.

Also, a memorial from Samuel Chase, praying that his bond as agent for the recovery of the bank stock may be
given up; which was read and referred to Mr, Shaaff, Mr. Forwood, Mr. Harryman, Mr. Chapman and Mr.
Winder, to consider and report thereon.

Mr. Harryman, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act authorising a lottery for
raising a sum of money for the rector and vestry of St. Thomas's parish, in Baltimore county; which was read
the first time and ordered to lie on the table.

On motion, Leave given to bring in a bill, entitled, An act authorising the state, under certain restrictions,
to become a stockholder in the Chesapeake and Delaware canal. ORDERED, That Mr. Mitchell, Mr. Forwood,
Mr. Little, Mr. Jackson and Mr. Porter, be a committee to prepare, and bring in the same.

On motion, Leave given to bring in a bill, entitled, An act to pay the civil list, and other expences of civil
government. ORDERED, That Mr. Shaaff, Mr. Winder and Mr. Harryman, be a committee to prepare and
bring in the same.

A petition from sundry inhabitants of Queen-Anne's county, praying that a law may pass compelling the in-
habitants thereof to erect and keep in repair a bridge over Tuckahoe creek above Wallace's mill, was preferred,
read, and referred to Mr. Sudler, Mr. J. Brown and Mr. 'Frisby, to consider and report thereon.

The house proceeded to the second reading of the supplement to the act, entitled, An act to establish pilots,
and regulate their fees; on progression, the question was" put, 'That the blank in the second clause be filled up
with the word " eight ?" Determined in the negative.

On motion, the question was put, " That the said clause be stricken out? Resolved in the affirmative.

On progression, the question was put, That the words "by the general assembly of Maryland, " be inserted
after the word " enacted" in the third clause of said bill? Resolved in the affirmative.

On further progression, the question was put, That the blank in said clause be filled up with the words " fifty
cents ?" Determined in the negative.

On motion, the question was then put, That the said blank be filled up with the words " twenty-five cents ?''
The yeas and nays being required, appeared as follow:
