72 VOTES AND PROCEEDINGS, NOVEMBER SESSION, 1805.

The bill giving further powers to the corporation of the city of Baltimore, was read the second time and
passed.

The clerk of the senate delivers the supplement to an act, entitled, An act to incorporate a company to make
a turnpike road, to lead from the cross-roads near Richard Caton's limekiln, in Baltimore county, nearly in the
direction of Jones's Falls to the city of Baltimore, the bill to lay out and open a road from the Pennsylvania
line to the Susquehanna canal, in Caecil county, and the bill for an addition to the town of Rockville, in Mont-
gomery county, severally endorsed, " will pass. " Ordered to be engrossed. And the following message:

BY THE SENATE, January 3, 1806.
GENTLEMEN OF THE HOUSE OF DELEGATES,

HAVING received a confidential communication from the executive, which we herewith transmit, we beg
leave to suggest the propriety of a conference between the two branches of the legislature on the important
subject therein referred to. Hoping that you will concur with us in this opinion, we have appointed Mr. Hous-
ton, Mr. Christie, Mr. M'Culloch, Mr. Partridge and Mr. John Johnson, a committee on the part of the se-
nate, to join any gentlemen you may think proper to name.

The following message being agreed to, was sent to the senate by the clerk.

BY THE HOUSE OF DELEGATES, January 4, 1806.
GENTLEMEN OF THE SENATE,
WE have received your message of the 3d instant, relative to certain confidential communications, and con-
cur in the propriety of a conference between the two branches of the legislature on the important subject re-
ferred to therein, and have appointed Mr. Montgomery, Mr. Stephen, Mr. Dorsey, Mr. Bruce and Mr. So-
mervell, on the part of this house, to join the gentlemen named in your message.

The bill giving further powers to the corporation of the city of Baltimore, was also sent to the senate by
the clerk.

Mr. Kuhn, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act to authorise James Rice and
Mary Wolf to dispose of the land therein mentioned; which was read the first time and ordered to lie on the
table.

Mr. Ennalls, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act to provide for recording
certain papers in the register's office of Dorchester county; which was read the first time and ordered to lie on
the table.

A petition from Caleb Johnson and Hezekiah Johnson, of Harford county, and Richard Britton, of Baltimore
county, praying an exclusive right, for fifteen years, to erect and use water moving machines for carding of
wool, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Montgomery, Mr. Bruce, Mr. Ellicott, Mr. Stephen, Mr.
Street, Mr. Van-Horn and Mr. Ogden, to consider and report thereon.

A petition from the vestrymen of Shrewsbury parish, in Kent county, stating, that a law passed in the year
1803, authorising a lottery to repair Shrewsbury church, and appointing commissioners, some of whom have
removed, and praying that others may be appointed, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Scott, Mr. Gale
and Mr. Hanson, to consider and report thereon.

A memorial from Martha Rasin, widow of the late lieutenant William B. Rasin, of Kent county, deceased,
praying that the half pay given to him in his life-time may be continued to her and her children, was preferred,
read, and referred to Mr. Scott, Mr. Hanson and Mr. Gale, to consider and report thereon.

The house resumed the consideration of the 6th and 17th sections of the bill to provide for the organization
and regulation of the courts of common law in this state, and for the administration of justice therein; on
motion, the question was put, That the first blank in the 6th section be filled up with the words " the third
Monday in June and December?" Resolved in the affirmative.

The question was then put, That the second blank in the said section be filled up with the words " the se-
cond Monday in June and December ?" Resolved in the affirmative.

The said sections being read throughout, the question was put, Shall the said bill pass ? Resolved in the
affirmative.

The clerk of the senate delivers the bill for the support of Solomon Jones and wife, and the bill to authorise
and empower the levy court of Baltimore county to assess and levy a sum of money for the purpose therein
mentioned, severally endorsed, " will pass. " Ordered to be engrossed. The further supplement to an act, en-
titled, An act for the better regulation of apprentices, endorsed, " will not pass. " The further additional sup-
plement to an act, entitled, An act for marking and bounding lands, and the bill for the benefit of the corpora-
tion of the Roman catholic clergymen, and for other purposes, severally endorsed, "will pass with the pro-
posed amendments; " which amendments were read the first and second time by especial order, agreed to, and
the bills ordered to be engrossed. And a resolution in favour of James M. Cresap, endorsed, assented to. "

Mr. Ellicott, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act to appoint wardens for the
port of Baltimore; which was read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.
