his paying the balance due for the same, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Bruce, Mr. Tomlinson and
Mr. Rizer, to consider and report thereon.

A petition from Anthony Fox, of Anne-Arundel county, praying lo be placed upon the pension list, was

preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Higgins, Mr. Chapman and Mr. Dorsey, to consider and report thereon.

Mr. Lemmon, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act to authorise and empower
the levy court of Baltimore county to assess and levy a sum of money for the purpose therein mentioned; which
was read the first and second time by especial order. and passed.

The bill for the support of Solomon Jones and wife, was read the second time, passed, and, with the bill
aforesaid, sent. 'to the senate by the clerk.

Mr. Bruce, from the committee, delivers to the speaker the following report: "

THE committee to whom was referred the petition of Jacob Workman, of Allegany county, report, that

they have taken the same under their consideration, and from an examination of the records in the land-office,

it appears patent has issued as stated by the petitioner. Your committee conceive it will be perfectly consonant

to every principle, both of law and equity, to remove every possible doubt respecting the validity of the patent

so issued, and to confirm the same, so far as the state may yet be supposed to hold an interest, by relinquishing

the same; they therefore beg leave to recommend the following resolution:

RESOLVED, That the right of the state of Maryland in and to a tract or parcel of land, lying in Allegany
county, called Workman's Fortune, and patented to Jacob Workman on the fifth day of September, eighteen
hundred and five, shall be and the same is hereby relinquished to said Jacob Workman, on condition of his pay-

ing into the treasury of the western shore the sum of six pounds five shillings on or before the———day

of —— next.

Which was read.

Mr. Smoot, from the committee, delivers to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act for the support of Covinton
Jones and wife; which was read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.

ORDERED, That the bill to provide for the organization and regulation of the courts of common law in this
state, and for the administration of justice. therein, have a second reading on to-morrow.

A petition from James Cockran, of Caecil county, graying he may be authorised to complete his collection as
collector of the first election district, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Cox, Mr. Moffit and Mr. Porter,
to consider and report thereon.

A petition from Samuel Condon, of Caecil county, praying he may be authorised to complete his collection as
collector in the second election district, was preferred,. read, and referred to the committee appointed on the
petition of James Cockran.

ORDERED, That the bill to provide for rendering passable through Baltimore county the public road leading
from the city of Baltimore by Belle-Air, in Harford county, to Peach Bottom Ferry, on the river Susquehanna,
be recommitted for amendment.

The house, according to the order of the day, proceeded to the second reading of the bill relating to the ju-
risdiction of the high court of chancery, general court and county courts, and for other purposes; on motion,

the question was put, That the words " general court" be stricken out of the title of said bill ? Resolved in

the affirmative.

The question was then put, That the words " and for other purposes" be stricken out of said title? Resolved
in the affirmative.

The question was then put, That the words " in each respective district" be inserted in lieu of the words
stricken out ? Resolved in the affirmative.

On motion, the question was put, That the first blank be filled up with the words " sixteen hundred ?" Re-
solved in the affirmative.

The question was then put, That the second blank be filled up with the words " thirty thousand ?" Resolved

in the affirmative.

On motion, the question was put, That the further consideration of the said bill be referred to the next ge-
neral assembly ? Determined in the negative.

The bill being read throughout, the question was then put, That the said bill be referred to the consideration
of the next general assembly ? The yeas and nays being required, appeared as follow:
