ments; " which amendments were read. And the bill to authorise the issuing of patents to Joshua Meredith
and Thomas Meredith for the land therein mentioned, endorsed, " will pass. " Ordered to be engrossed.

The house proceeded to ballot for a person to be recommended to the governor to be commissioned as register
of wills for Washington county; the ballots being deposited in the ballot box, the gentlemen named to strike
retired, and after sometime returned and reported, that George C. Smoot was elected.

Whereupon, RESOLVED, That George C. Smoot be and he is hereby recommended to the governor to be
commissioned as register of wills for Washington county.

The house adjourns until to-morrow morning 9 o'clock.

SATURDAY, December 28, 1805.

THE house met. Present the same members as on yesterday, except Mr. Hebb. The speaker appears
in the house and resumes the chair. The proceedings of yesterday were read. Mr. Van-Horn appears in the
house.

On motion, the question was put, That the bill relating to the jurisdiction of the high court of chancery,
general court and county courts, and for other purposes, have a second reading on Thursday the 2d day of Ja-
nuary next ? Resolved in the affirmative.

The report of the committee on the petition of James M. Cresap, of Allegany county, was read the second
time and the resolution therein contained assented to.

Petitions from Joseph Pierpoint and John Wray, of Baltimore county, and Edmund Custis, of the city of
Baltimore, praying acts of insolvency, were preferred, read, and referred to the committee appointed on peti-
tions of a similar nature.

A petition from sundry citizens of Baltimore, counter to the petition of William Merryman for an act of in-
solvency, was preferred, read, and referred to the committee appointed on the petition to which it is counter.

ORDERED, That the bill to incorporate a company to make a turnpike road from the line of the district of
Columbia, where it crosses the post-road leading from George-town to Frederick town, through Montgomery
and Frederick counties, to Frederick-town, have a second reading on Monday the 6th of January next.

The amendments proposed to the bill for the benefit of Grafton Duvall, of Prince-George's county, were
read the second time by especial order, agreed to, and the bill ordered to be engrossed.

ORDERED, That the bill to withdraw the funds from Washington and St. John's colleges, and subject the same
to the appropriation of the legislature, have a second reading on Wednesday the first of January next.

The bill appointing Richard Cramphin, Benjamin Lowndes and George Calvert, commissioners for the pur-
poses therein mentioned, was read the second time and passed.

Mr. Ellicott, from the committee, delivers to the speaker the following report:

THE committee to whom was referred the petition of Absalom Barney Tracey, John Barney Tracey, Wil-
liam Barney Tracey, " Amelia Barney Tracey, Thomas Barney Tracey and Moses Barney Tracey, praying their
names may be changed to the name of Gill, report, that they have taken the same into their consideration, and
are of opinion, that under the information they have on the subject it would be improper to grant the prayer of
said petitioners. .

Which was read the first and second time by especial order and concurred with.

A petition from Charles Alexander Warfield, of Anne-Arundel county, praying to be released as security of
Dennis Griffith, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Dorsey, Mr. Shaaff, Mr. Montgomery, Mr. Lloyd
and Mr. Higgins, to consider and report thereon.

A petition from sundry inhabitants of Harford county, praying that the levy court and trustees of the poor
may be chosen by the people, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Street, Mr. Montgomery, Mr. Ayres,
Mr. Hawkins and Mr. Van-Horn, to consider and report thereon.

The report of the committee on the petition of Patrick Murdock, of Allegany county, was read the second
time and the resolution therein contained assented to.

ORDERED, That the additional supplement to an act, entitled, An act to lay out and establish a road from
the city of Annapolis to the city of Washington, and to repeal the act therein mentioned, be recommitted for
amendment.

A petition from sundry inhabitants of Harford county, counter to the petition for streightening and amending
the road from Smith's stone tavern to Havre-de Grace, was preferred, read, and referred to the committee ap-
pointed on the petition to which it is counter.

A petition from doctor Thomas Love, of Baltimore county, stating, that he is considerably injured by reason
of the York turnpike road passing through his land, and praying relief in the premises, was preferred, read, and
referred to Mr. Harryman, Mr. Lemmon, Mr. Ogden, Mr. Porter and Mr. Montgomery, to consider and re-
port thereon.

A petition from sundry inhabitants of Harford county, counter to the petition praying a law to prevent the
erection of batteries, mounds or artificial islands, in the river Susquehanna, was preferred, read, and referred

to the committee appointed on the petition to which it is counter.
