VOTES AND PROCEEDINGS, NOVEMBER SESSION, 1805. 53

Mr. Ellicott appears in the house.

The house, according to the order of the day, proceeded to the second reading of the bill for the encourage-
ment of learning in this state, and for other purposes therein mentioned; on motion, the question was put,
That Saint-Mary's county be inserted in the first clause after the word " for ?'' The yeas and nays being re-
quired, appeared as follow:

AFFIRMATIVE.

Gale, Somervell, Chapman, Lloyd, Hyland, Sudler, Kuhn, Bruce,

So it was resolved in the affirmative.

The question was then put, Shall the blank in the said clause after the words " Saint-Mary's county" be
filled up with the sum of 600 dollars ? Determined in the negative.

The question was then put, Shall the said blank be filled up with the sum of 550 dollars ? Determined in the
negative.

The question was then put, Shall the said blank be filled up with the sum of 350 dollars ? Resolved in the
affirmative.

On further progression, the question was put, Shall Kent county be stricken out of said clause ? Resolved in
the affirmative.

The question was then put, Shall Anne-Arundel county be stricken out of the same clause, ? Resolved in the
affirmative.

On further progression, the question Was then put, Shall the blank after Calvert county be filled up with the
sum of 500 dollars ? Determined in the negative.

The question was then put, That the said blank be filled up with the sum of 350 dollars ? Resolved in the
affirmative.

On further progression, the question was then put, That the blank in said clause after the words " Charles
county" be filled up with the sum of 750 dollars ? Determined in the negative.

The question was then put, That the said blank be filled up with the sum of 550 dollars ? Resolved in the
affirmative.

The question was then put, That the blank after the words " Baltimore county" in the same clause be filled
up with the sum of 1500 dollars ? Resolved in the affirmative.

On further progression, the question was put, That Talbot county be stricken out of said clause ? Resolved
in the affirmative.

The question was then put, That the blank in the same clause after the words " Somerset county" be filled
up with the sum of 300 dollars ? The yeas and nays being required, appeared as follow:
