18 VOTES AND PROCEEDINGS, NOVEMBER SESSION, 1805.

THE committee to whom was referred the petition of Frederick Green beg leave to report, that they have
taken the same into consideration, and are of opinion that the prayer of the petitioner ought to be granted;
we therefore submit the following resolution:

RESOLVED, That the treasurer of the western shore advance to Frederick Green, printer to the state, the
sum of six hundred dollars, in part of the salary which may be allowed him on the civil list for the ensuing year

A petition from James Jones Wilmer, of Montgomery county, praying a law may pass annulling his marriage

with Letitia Day, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Watts, Mr. Contee, Mr. Ellicott, Mr. Montgo-
mery, Mr. Van-Horn, Mr. Carroll and Mr. Shaaff, to consider and report thereon.

A petition from Mary Kline, of the city of Baltimore, praying to be divorced from her husband, Jacob Kline,
Was preferred, read, and referred to the committee appointed on the petition of James Jones Wilmer.

The bill, entitled, An act for the relief of Benjamin Gushwa, Martin Rickart and John Manning, of Wash-
ington county, was read the second time and passed.

A petition from sundry inhabitants of Frederick-town, praying a law may pass authorising a lottery to raise
a sum of money to purchase a fire engine, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Kuhn, Mr. Waters and
Mr. Hawkins, to consider and report thereon.

The resolution in favour of William Gardiner, of Charles county, the bill, entitled, An act authorising Law-
rence Brengle, collector of Frederick county, to complete his collection, and the bill, entitled, An act for the
relief of Benjamin Gushwa, Martin Rickart and John Manning, of Washington county, were sent to the senate
by the clerk.

The following resolution was read the first and second time by especial order and assented to.

Whereas the state having become a stockholder in the Bank of Baltimore to the amount of one hundred and

six thousand and two hundred dollars, is thereby entitled to appoint annually two directors, on to be chosen

by the senate, the other by the house of delegates; therefore RESOLVED, That this house, on to-morrow, will

proceed to the appointment of a director to the Bank of Baltimore, in behalf of the state, for the ensuing year.

A petition from Margaret Frampton, of Caroline county, praying a law may pass authorising a sale of the

real estate of Amelia Chance, an infant, was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Holbrook, Mr. Montgomery,

Mr, Jump, Mr. Turpin and Mr. Bayard, to consider and report thereon.

Mr. Hebb, from the committee, delivers to the speaker the following report:

THE committee to whom was referred the petition of Joseph Mills, of Saint-Mary's county, report, that
they have had the same under their consideration, and are of opinion that the allegations set forth in the said

petition are true, and that there appears due the petitioner, as administrator of Timothy Bowes, late of Saint-
Mary's county, the sum of fourteen pounds fifteen shillings; they therefore submit the following resolution:

RESOLVED, That the treasurer of the western shore be and he is hereby authorised and required to pay unto
Joseph Mills, administrator of Timothy Bowes, of Saint-Mary's county, the sum of fourteen pounds fifteen
shillings, with interest thereon from September, seventeen hundred and eighty-one.

Mr. Hebb, from the committee, delivers to the speaker the following report:

THE committee to whom was referred the petition of Enoch Combs, of Saint-Mary's county, report, that
they have had the same under their consideration, and from the documents accompanying the petition there ap-
pears due the petitioner, as assignee of W. B. Atkinson, the sum of two pounds six shillings and ten-pence
halfpenny; they therefore submit the following resolution:

RESOLVED, That the treasurer of the western shore be and he is hereby authorised and required to pay unto
Enoch Combs, of Saint-Mary's county, or his order, the sum of two pounds six shillings. and ten-pence half-
penny, with interest thereon from the ninth day of March, seventeen hundred and eighty-five.

On motion, Leave given to bring in a bill to incorporate a company to make a turnpike road from the line of
the district of Columbia, where it crosses the post-road leading from George-town to Frederick, through Mont-
gomery and Frederick counties to Frederick-town. ORDERED, That Mr. Linthicum, Mr. Van-Horn, Mr. Watts,
Mr. Ringgold, Mr. Bruce, Mr. Carroll and Mr. Hawkins, be a committee to prepare and bring in the same.

The following message was read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.

BY THE HOUSE OF DELEGATES, November 19, 1805.
GENTLEMEN OF THE SENATE,

WE propose to proceed, to-morrow, to the election of two directors, on the part of this state, in the Union
Bank of Maryland. ——————————— are put in nomination by this house. Mr. ————— and Mr. ———
are appointed by the house of delegates to join the gentlemen to be appointed by you in the examination of the
ballots; and to regulate the manner of said election we have adopted the following resolution:

RESOLVED, That the two directors to be appointed on the part of this state, in the Union Bank of Maryland,
be elected by ballot, and the two persons having a majority of the ballots of all the attending members of both
