102 VOTES AND PROCEEDINGS, NOVEMBER SESSION, 1805.

The first resolution being read, the question was put, Will the house assent to the same? Resolved in the

affirmative.

The question was then put, That the following be inserted after the first resolution? viz. " Whereas the
state hath heretofore become a stockholder in the Bank of Baltimore to the amount of one hundred and six
thousand two hundred dollars, in the Union Bank of Maryland to the amount of forty-two thousand four hun-
dred dollars, and in the Farmers Bank of Maryland to the amount of forty thousand dollars: And whereas it
is intended to vest in stock of the said banks the further sum of three hundred and eleven thousand three hun-
dred dollars, and this general assembly, always solicitous to cherish and protect the interest of the farmers,
planters and mechanics, as well as to promote the interest of the commercial part of the citizens. " Resolved
in the affirmative.

On motion, the question was put, That the following be inserted after the said amendment? " Convinced
that the Farmers Bank of Maryland, being established for the benefit of the farmers, planters and mechanics
of our country, merits, and ought to receive from the state, a patronage equal at least to that afforded to any
other bank. " The yeas and nays being required, appeared as follow:

So it was resolved in the affirmative.

On motion, That the following be added after the last amendment ? viz.
" In order therefore that the aid and countenance of the state to each of the banks aforesaid shall be equal,
the aforesaid sum of three hundred and eleven thousand three hundred dollars shall be apportioned among the
said banks agreeable to the following resolution: RESOLVED, That the treasurer of the western shore, under
the direction of the governor and council, subscribe, on the part of this state, in the Bank of Baltimore the
sum of ——, in the Union Bank of Maryland the sum of —, and in the Farmers Bank of Maryland
the sum of ————, the amount of which subscriptions shall be paid out of the money received, or that shall
be received, from the sale of the Maryland bank stock in the Bank of England. "

lars?" The yeas and nays being required, appeared as follow:
