And the afd Ann Spray in her proper person Comes and Defends the force
and Injury when &c.a and Saith that She Cannot gainsay but that She is
guilty of Committing fornication as by the s.d Indictment it is alledged &
thereupon Submitts to the Court And the s.d Ann being ordered to prove the
father of her Child It is made appear that She is a Convict And that her
time is not Compleated wch She Confesses thereupon it is adjudged that her
Oath be not Good in Law Therefore it is Considered by the Justices here this
twentyeth Day of March Anno Dom. Seventeen hundred and twenty
four that the afd Ann Spray Receive at the publick whiping post twenty
one lashes well laid on her bare back till the blood appear as a punishm.t
for her afd Crime of Committing fornication in form afd Confest as also
that She pay the Sume of two hundred & Sixty Seven pounds of
Tobacco Costs Accrueing on the premisses afd to the officers of this Court

    Ordered that the Sherf of Kent County take y.e afd Ann Spray into his
Custody and Execute the Lashes in the Judgment afd Specified, of which
precept the s.d Sherf to wit Fred.k Hanson Gent High Sherr of Kent
County now here at this Day to wit the Day and year afd makes Return
thereof in these words thereon Endorst viz.t
                                                Executed pine Fred.k Hanson Sherr

    Ordered that the afd Ann Spray after the Expiration of her present
Service Serve her Master Nathaniel Ricketts four Months for line
Charges and trouble in bringing her to Bed & Disgrace of his family &c.a

    Ordered y.e Nathaniel Ricketts ^be allowed in y.e next Levey^ ten Shill Curr.t money p Month from
the twelth Day of Feb.ry last to Novemb.r Court next Ensueing for
keeping and Maintaining y.e afd Ann Sprays Child

    Ordered that y.e afd Ann Spray Return to her Masters Service and that
She be Delivered up to the Court at y.e Expiration of her time to Satisfy
the Charges the County hath Expended on her account
