14                                    June Court 1724.

And now here at this Court to with the Sixteenth Day of June Anno
Domini one thousand Seven hundred and twenty four the afd George Hastins
produces the following petition to the Court with the Grant thereof by his
honour the Governour which is Ordered to be entered as a Discharge of the
Same Recognizance and is as follows.

To The Honourable Charles Calvert Esq.r Govern.r of
    Maryland.

The petition of George Hastins of Kent County.  Humbly Sheweth

That your petitioner some time in August last became bound
by Recognizance in the Sume of twenty pounds Sterl for the appearance of a
certain Mary Pool to the then next Novemb.r Court on Suspicion of some
fellonys Supposed to have been Commited by her, and in Order to Secure the
said Marys appearance your Petitioner did keep & Maintain her for a
Considerable time at his own house notwithstanding which by means of
her Husband John Pool She hath made her Escape before appearance
to the said Recogniz.ce and altho She was imediately pursued & narrowly
hunted after as well on this as the Neighbouring provinces both by your
Pet.r himself and by others hired and employed for that purpose Yet she
could never be taken whereby You.r pet.rs Recogniz.ce is now lyable to an
Estraitment.  Your Petitioner further intimates that being poor and having
no other Support for himself and a family of male Children but what he
Earns by his dayly Labour he hath allready Expended whatever he could
Raise and also run much in debt for Money to pursue the said Mary &
if he should be obliged to pay the Forfiture it must inevitably prove the
Ruin of Your pition.r and his Family.
Your Petition.r Therefore humbly Supplied that Your Hon.r
may be pleased ^to^ Extend ^your^ Clemency to his deplorable Condition
by granting him a release from the forfiture of the said
Recogniz.ce thereby to prevent the Ruin both of himself &
his helpless family and You.r Pet.r as in duty bound shall
    Ever pray

Granted Cha: Calvert
