Quality and measure of lime, whose duty it shall be, to
measure and inspect all the lime brought to the city of

be measured by the standard bushel, or Baltimore seal, in
which is contained twenty-one hundred and fifty cubic
inches, and each of said inspectors and measurers, in the

event of sickness or other disability, may with the appro
bation of the Mayor, have power to appoint a deputy or
deputies, as the case may be, the said inspectors and mea
surers being responsible for the official acts of the said de-
puties, and the said inspectors or their deputies, before

they enter upon the duties of their offices, shall make oath
or affirmation, as the case may be, before the Mayor, tint
they will faithfully execute the duties of their office, agree-
ably to the provisions of this act, and according to the best
of their knowledge and ability

Sec 2 And be it enacted, That the Mayor be, and he
is hereby authorised to designate stands for the inspection
and measurement of time, and to establish such and so
many, as in his judgment the public convenience may re
quire, and the said inspectors and their deputies shall
change their stand alternately, on the Monday of each
week.

Sec 3 And be it enacted, That all the lime brought to
the city, for sale, or intended to be used therein, shall be
taken to one of the stands designated by the Mayor, and
there submitted for inspection when required, on the same
day, on which it is to be sold, to be inspected and measur
ed by the person appointed as aforesaid, who shall mea-
sure and inspect the same in the waggon, car, cart, or oth-
er carriage, in which it is brought agreeably to the stand-

ard hereafter mentioned, and give to the seller a certificate
of the quality and quantities thereof, that is, whether it be,

first, second or third quality, for which certificate, he shall
be entitled to receive as a compensation thirty seven and
a half cents

Sec 4 And be it enacted, That all lime brought to the
city in casks for sale, by water or otherwise, shall be mea-
sured and inspected in the same manner, the quantity and

quality to be marked with a legible brand, mark on the
cask, or other vessel containing the same, and for every
cask or other vessel so inspected and measured, the inspector

shall be entitled to receive twelve and a half cents, as his
compensation, and all lime brought to the city, whether by
land or water, which in the judgment of the inspector, is
below the standard of third quality, shall be condemned,
