CHAP. 236.

General mating.

give at least two weeks notice thereof by putting up notices
at the most public places in the said town, and at the same
time shall call a meeting of the contributors at some con-
venient place, who shall elect by ballot, eight trustees, for
the purpose of taking charge of the funds subscribed, and
to receive additional appropriations, and for the purpose of
erecting a Seminary as intended by this act; and the said
trustees shall have the power of appointing a President
from among their own body, and of appointing a Trea-
surer and Secretary in like manner, who shall report to the
said trustees semi-annually.

Sec. 3. And be it enacted, That the said trustees shall
be a body corporate, and shall have perpetual successsion
by the name and style of the trustees of the Boonsbovough
Female Seminary, and by that name may sue and be sued,
and have a corporate seal, which they may break, alter and
change at pleasure; may hold property and dispose of the
same, may make by-laws not contrary to the laws of this
state, or of the United States, and do all other acts neces-
sary for the purposes heroin specified.

Sec. 4. And be it enacted, That the said trustees and
their successors may hold and enjoy, and that they may be
capable in law for taking, holding and enjoying all lands,
tenements, rents, services, portions, annuities, with all

other inheritances, franchises and possessions whatsoever,
of the gift of any person whatsoever, that is willing to be-
stow them, for the use of the Seminary aforesaid, or any

any and all kinds whatever for the use and benefit of said
Seminary.

Case of vacancy.

Sec. 5. And be it enacted, That if a vacancy occurs in
the board of trustees, the same shall be filled by the said
trustees, until the next annual election of the same.

Sec. 6. And be it enacted, That on the first Monday of
July, in every year, an election shall be held at some con-
venient place, for the election of eight trustees as before

indicated; and at such elections, every free male citizen
who is entitled to vote for Delegates to the Legislature,
shall be entitled to vote for trustees; Provided, that he may
have contributed to the building or support of said acade -
my to the amount of not less than five dollars, or at the
time of election shall send a pupil or pupils to said Semi-
nary.

Sec. 7. And be it enacted, That the said trustees, after
they have erected the said Seminary, and furnished with
the funds subscribed, the necessary fixtures, shall have
