CHAP. 207.

CHAPTER 206.

Passed Mar. 15, 1833

A furher supplement to an act to erect Baltimore Town, in
Baltimore county, into a City, and to incorporate the
inhabitants thereof.

Preamble.

WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Council of Baltimore, by
a resolution, approved the fourteenth day of February, eigh-
teen hundred and thirty-three, have declared it to be expe-
dient to obtain an amendment to the charter of the City, so
that the Mayor may be immediately elected by the people
without the intervention of Electors— Therefore,

Mayor to be elect-

ed by the people.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly ofMa-
ryland, That at all future elections for theMayor of the City
of Baltimore, said officer shall be voted for immediately by
the people, and not by electors as hitherto; any thing in any
act to the contra 17 notwithstanding, and said election shall
be conducted in the same manner as is provided for by the
act to which this is a supplement, and the several acts
which are supplementary thereto, so far as it is consistent
with or applicable to an election, made in the manner herein
provided.

Case of vacancy.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That in case of a vacancy
in the Mayoralty, the President of the first Branch of the
City Council, or if no President of the first Branch, or in

his absence from the City, that the President of the second
Branch shall immediately order a new election, giving at
least twenty days notice of the same by advertisement in all
the daily newspapers in said City; and the said President
of the first Branch of the City Council shall be ex-officio
Mayor until a new election.


CHAPTER 207.

Passed Mar.15,1833

An act relating to opening Streets, Lanes, and Alleys, laid
out by the present plan oj the City of Baltimore.

Preamble

WHEREAS, by virtue of the acts of December session,
eighteen hundred sixteen, chapter two-hundred and eigh-
teen, and December session, eighteen, hundred seventeen,
chapter one hundred and forty-eight, Streets, Lanes, and
Alleys, have been designated and laid out within the limits
of the City of Baltimore, which are subject, but at no pre-
scribed period, to be opened and extended, widened, and
