CHAPTER 198.

A supplement to the act, entitled, "An act to Incorporate the
Canton Company of Baltimore, passed at December session,
eighteen hundred and twenty-eight, chapter one hundred
and fifty-nine.
|
|
|
|
Authorised to hold
3000 acres.
|
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the Canton Company of Baltimore, shall have power
to purchase and hold at one time not more than three thous-
and acres of land, and that the proviso in the first section of
the act to which this is a supplement, which restricts the
quantity of land which the said Company may hold to two
thousand acres, be, and the same is hereby repealed; Pro-

vided nevertheless, That the authority to purchase and hold
the aforesaid additional quantity of land, is not to be so
construed as to authorize said Company to purchase or
hold land in any other part of this State, except Baltimore
City and County.

An act to Incorporate the Mount Hope College.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the Seminary heretofore known as the
Mount Hope Institution, in the vicinity of Baltimore, be,
and the same hereby is established and constituted a col-
lege, and that Frederick Hall, William Lorman, James
Wilson, Richard B. Magruder, Samuel Baker, David A.
Hall and Charles F. Mayer, Esqrs. and their successors,
duly appointed, be a body corporate and politic, to be cal-

name and style

led and known by the name of "the President and Trus-
tees of the Mount Hope College," by which name, they
shall be capable to plead and be impleaded, in all courts
of law and equity, and in all actions whatsoever, and also
to have, take and enjoy, by purchase, bequest or devise,
any, and every species of estate in lands, goods and, chat-
ties, or other tenements, and such estate, to sell, lease, in-
vest at interest, or otherwise dispose of, for the benefit of
the said college, at their discretion; and they shall have

power to authenticate their acts, records and proceedings,
by a common and corporate seal, which they may change,
alter and renew at pleasure.
