CHAP. 189.

of medicine; Provided, that no student of medicine in said
college shall be entitled to a diploma, unless he shall have
attended lectures in said college during two terms; but the
said professors and board of visitors shall have power at
any time to accept evidence of his having attended lec-
tures in any other medical school of established reputation
for an equal period of time, and receive the same as equiv-

alent to having attended one of the terms above described.
Sec. 13. And be it enacted, That the professors shall at
any time have the power of conferring the honorary degree
of Doctor of medicine on any physician who shall have
rendered himself conspicuous in his profession, within the
state of Maryland or elsewhere.

Sec. 14. And be it enacted, That if it happen at any time
hereafter through oversight or misapprehension or mistaken
construction of the powers, liberties and franchises in this
charter or act of incorporation, granted or intended to be
granted, any ordinance should be made by the said corpo-
ration of professors, or any matter done or transacted by
the corporation, contrary to the tenor thereof, all such or-
dinances, acts and doings, shall of themselves be null and
void, yet they shall not, in any courts of law, or by the
General Assembly, be deemed, taken, interpreted or ad-

judged into, or as in avoidance or dissolution or forfeiture
of this charter and incorporation, but the same shall be and
remain unhurt, inviolate and entire, unto the said corpora-
tion of professors, in perpetual succession, and all their acts,
conformable to the powers, true intent and meaning hereof,
shall be and remain in full force and validity, the nullity
and avoidance of such other acts to the contrary notwith-
standing.

Sec. 15. And be it enacted, That this charter and act
of incorporation, and every part thereof, shall be good and
available in all things in the law, according to the true in-
tent and meaning thereof, and shall be construed, reputed
and adjudged in all cases most favourably on the behalf,
and for the best benefit and behoof of the said professors
and their successors, so as most effectually to answer the
valuable ends of this act of incorporation, towards the ge-
neral advancement and promotion of medical knowledge.

Right to modify

&c reserved

Sec. 16. And be it enacted, That the State of Maryland
reserves to itself the right to modify, amend or rescind any
provision in this act, at any time after the expiration of the
year eighteen hundred and forty-five.
