An act to Incorporate " The Horticultural Society of
Maryland."

Preamble

WHEREAS, a number of persons, residents of this State,
have associated for the purpose of improving and en-
couraging the science and practice of Horticulture, arid of
introducing into the State new species and varieties of
trees, fruits, plants, vegetables, and flowers, and are now
desirous of becoming incorporated; — Therefore,

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Isaac McKim, Henry Thompson, Benja-
min I. Cohen, David Hoffman, Robert Sinclair, William
H. Freeman, H. T. Dickehut, I. I. Hitchcock, Charles C.
Harper, C. Carroll, of Homewood, Samuel W. Smith, Dr.
Julius T. Ducatel, George W. Dobbin, Robert Lyon, jr.
Dr. Joshua I. Cohen, P. T- Tyson, T. P. Alien, Thomas
Edmondson, jr., Dr. John C. S. Monkeer, Frederick J.
Dugan, Henry Shroeder, Z. Waters, George Fitzhugh,
Edw'd Kurtz, James Moore, Samuel Feast, William S.
Thomas, John Feast, Dr. Richard W.Hall, John S.Skinner,
Dr. Wm. Fisher, and their associates, who now constitute

the Horticultural Society of Maryland, and others who
shall hereafter be admitted members of the same, be and
they are hereby constituted a body politic and corporate,
with succession under the style and title of "The Horticul-
tural Society of Maryland," with power to them and their
successors to adopt a common seal, and the same to alter
and change, and by the name above written, to sue and be
sued, to plead and be impleaded, and to take and hold
property, real, personal, and mixed, and the same to sell,
exchange, or otherwise dispose of, and in general to do, per-
form, and suffer all acts and things which may lawfully be
done, performed, and suffered by H natural person; provided,
tnat the property authorised to be held by this act, shall
not exceed the proper uses of the Society hereby intended
to be incorporated, and that the same shall be applied to
such uses, and to no other use or purpose whatsoever.

Adopt rules, &c.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That this incorporation, or a
majority of the members of the same, shall have full power
to make a system of rules and regulations under the de-
nomination of by-laws, or otherwise, for the management
of their officers, and the government of the said Company,

and the same to alter and amend, abrogate and annul,
