June Court 1761 87 Tuesday of June Anno Dom. one thousand Seven hundred and Sixty One to Answer unto his Lordship of and Concerning the Indictment afd. Att which day here Came the afd. John Furlong in his Proper Person and had a hearing of the Indictment afd. Saith that he Cannot deny but that He is Guilty of the Premisses in the Indictment afd. above upon him Imposed in Manner and form as by the Indictment afd. Above Against him Supposed and is Willing to pay his fine for the Same Whereupon all and Singular the Premisses being Seen and by the Court fully Understood it is Considered by the Court here that the afd. John Furlong for the Premisses and Offence afd. in the Indictment afd. Above Specified by taken &c. Which Said John Furlong present here in Court as afd. is fined for the Premisses and Offence afd. thirty Shillings Curt Money of Maryland which he paid here in Court to the use of the County &c. Whereupon the Said John Furlong is ordered to Give Security to Save and keep Indemnified the Justices of Somerset County Court and their Successors from all troubles burthens and Charges that might Accrew by Means of the birth & Maintainance of the Child afd. Thereupon the Said John Furlong together with Wm. Giles of Somerset County Planter his Security both present here in Court in their Proper Persons Acknowledged themselves Indebted unto his Lordship the Right Honrble the Lord Propry in thirty Pounds Curt Money of Maryland of their bodies Goods or Chattles Lands or tenements Joyntly and Severally to be made and Levied to the use of the Inhabitants of Somerset County for the time being if it happen that the afd. John Furlong his heirs Exrs. or Admrs. or any or Either of them do not from time to time and at all times hereafter Acquitt Discharge and Save harmless as well the Justices of Somerset County Court for the time being as also the Inhabitants of Said County of and from all Costs Charges and troubles Whatsoever for or by Reason of the birth Maintainance Nourishing and bringing up of the Said Child And of and from all other Suits Troubles and Demands whatsoever touching or Concerning of the Same &c
Parish in the County afd. did Commit Fornication with a Certain Person to the Jurors unknown and did Permit the Same unknown Person to have Carnal knowledge of her body and a Bastard Child on the body of her the Said Elizabeth then and there to beget to the high displeasure of Almighty God to the Evil Example of all Others in Such Case Offending Contrary to the Peace of the Said Lord Propry that now is his Good Rule and Government and Against the form of the Act of Assembly in Such Case made and provided and So forth Thereupon it is Commanded the Sheriff of Somerset County that he Should take the Said Elizth Bounds if She Should be found in his Bailywick and her Should Safe keep so that he might have her body before the Justices of his Lordships County Court of Somerset to be held at Princes Ann Town the third Tuesday of June Anno Dom. one thousand Seven hundred and Sixty One to Answer unto his Said Lordship of and Concerning the Indictment afd. Att Which day here Came the afd. Elizabeth Bounds in her Proper Person and had a hearing of the Indictment afd. Saith that She Cannot deny but that She is Guilty of the Premisses in the Indictment afd. Above upon him Imposed in Manner and form as by the Indictment afd. above Against her Supposed and is Willing to pay her fine for the Same and Maketh Oath that a Certain Anthony Collins is the father of the Bastard Child She Stands Indicted for &c. Whereupon all and Singular the Premisses being Seen and by the Court fully understood it is Considered by the Court here that the afd. Elizth Bounds present here in Court as afd. is fined for the Premisses and Offence afd. thirty Shillings Curt Money of Maryland which She paid here in Court to the Sheriff
Carnal Knowledge of her body and to beget then and there a Bastard Child on the body of her the Said Ann to the high displeasure of Almighty God to the Evil Example of all Others in Such Case offending Contrary to the peace of the Said Lord |
