237    Acknowledged as also                                               Pounds of tobacco for his Costs and Charges afd. to the Same
John at his Request by the Court now here of the Assent of the parties afd. Adjudged which Certain Damages in the whole
Amount to four pound Sixteen Shillings and Six pence Curt Gold of Virginia of the Value of Eight pounds Curt Money of Maryland
and forty three Shillings Curt Money of Maryland and                                                    Pounds of Tobacco and the afd.

@    County on their Oath present that James Polk Late of the Parish of Somerset in the County afd. planter on the
James Polk    Seventh day of October Anno Dom. MDCCLX at the Parish afd. in the County afd. with force and Arms in
And upon a Certain William Hailey in the peace of God and the Said Lord Propry then and there being an Assault did
make and him the Said William then and there did beat Wound and Evilly treat So that of his Life it was much
dispaired and Other harms to him the Said William then and there did to the Great Damage of him the Said William
And Against the peace of his Lordship the Right Honrble the Lord Propry that now is his good Rule and Government
           Thereupon it is Commanded the Sheriff of Somerset County that he Should Take the Said James Polk if he
Should be found in his Bailywick and him Should Safe keep so that he might have his body before the Justices of his
Lordships County Court of Somerset to be held at Princes Ann Town in and for the County afd. the third Tuesday of March
Anno Dom. one thousand Seven hundred and Sixty One to Answer unto his Lordship of and Concerning the Indictment
afd. &c.    Att which Said Third Tuesday of March and Year afd. Came the afd. James Polk in his proper person and had a hearing
of the Indictment afd. Saith he will not Contend whi with his Said Lordship but for the Saveing Costs Labour and Expences
About the premisses Submits himself at fine with his Said Lordship by Occasion of the premisses and put himself upon the
favour of the Court    Whereupon all and Singular the premisses being Seen and by the Court here fully understood it is
Considered by the Court here that the afd. James Polk for the premisses and Offence afd. in the Indictment afd. above Specified
be taken &c. Which Said James Polk present here in Court as afd. is fined for the premisses and Offence afd. the Sum of
Ten Shillings Curt Money of Maryland which he paid here in Court to the Sheriff of the County afd. for the use of his
Lordship &c.
