His Lordship    Somerset to wit Be it Remembred that William Hayward gent.
vs    Attorney of ye. Right Honrble the Lord Propry that now is his who
Rachell Sumners    for the same Lord Propry in this Part Prosecuteth doth Come here into
the County Court of ye same Lord Propry held for Somerset County to wit at Princes
Ann Town in ye. same County ye. Eighteenth day of November in ye. Year of our
Lord one thousand seven hundred and sixty Before Isaac Handy Esqr. and other
his Associates the said Lord Propry his Justices of the same County Court and for
The same Lord Propry doth give ye. same Justices here to understand and be Informed
that Rachell Sumners Late of Coventry Parish in ye. said County of Somerset
spinster the third day of November in ye. Year of our Lord one thousand seven
hundred and fifty nine at ye. Parish afd. in ye. County afd. did Commit Fornication
with a Certain person unknown and did Permitt ye. same unknown Person
to have Carnal Knowledge of her Body and Bastard Child on ye. Body of her the
said Rachell then and there to Beget to ye. High Displeasure of Almighty God
to ye. Evill Example of all others in such Case offending Contrary to ye. Peace
of ye. said Lord Propry that now is his good rule & government and against
the form of the Act of Assembly in such Case made and Provided and so forth
And Whereupon ye. same attorney of ye. same Lord Propry for ye. Lord Propry
Prays advice of ye. Court here in ye. Premisses and that due Process of Law may
in this Part be made against ye. said Rachell to answer of and upon ye.
Premisses & so forth
thereupon it was Commanded the sherriff of Somerset County that he should take
the said Rachell if &c. to answer &c.
And now to wit at a Court of his Lordship held at Princes Ann Town the third Tuesday of
November Anno Dom. one thousand seven hundred and sixty before ye. Justices thereof
Came ye> afd. Rachell Sumners in her Proper person and had a hearing of ye. Informa:
:tion afd. saith that she cannot deny but that she is guilty of the Premisses in ye.
Information afd. above upon her Imposed in manner and form as by ye. Informa:
:tion afd. above against her Supposed & maketh Oath that Jno. Newman is ye. Father
of the Child She stands Informed afd. and is willing to pay her fine for ye. same &c.
                                                                                   Court
Whereupon all & singular ye. Premisses being seen and by ye. ^ fully understood it is
Considered by the Court here that the afd. Rachell Sumners for ye. Premisses and offence
afd. in ye. Information afd. above specified be taken &c. which said Rachell SUmners
present here in Court as afd. is fined for ye Premisses & offence afd. thirty shillings Current
Money of Maryland which she paid here in Court to the use of ye. County &c.
Whereupon a Certain John Johnson Present here in Court in his proper person undertook
for ye. said Rachell Sumners to pay ye. severall officers their fees due by means of ye.
Prosecution afd. &c.
