November Court 1760 55 Whereupon the Said Aaron Starling is ordered to give Sery to Save & keep Indemnfied The Justices of Somerset County Court and their Successors from all Troubles burthens & Charges that might Acrew by means of ye Birth & Maintainance of ye. Child afd. Thereupon the said Aaron Starling together with Littleton Dennis of Somerset County gentleman his Sery both present here in Court in their Proper persons acknowledged themselves Indebted unto his Lordship &c Right Honrble ye. Lord Propry in thirty Pounds Current money of Maryland of their Bodies Goods or Chattles Lands or Tenements Jointly & Severally to be made & Levied to ye. use of the Inhabitants of Somerset County for ye. time being if it happen that the afd. Aaron Stirling his heirs Exrs. or Admrs. or any or either of them do not from time to time and at all times hereafter Acquit Discharge & Save harmless as well ye Justices of Somerset Coty. Court for ye. time being as also the Inhabitants of said County of and from all Costs Charges troubles Whatsoever for or by Reason of ye. Birth Maintainance nourishing & bringing up of the said Child and of & from all other Suits Troubles and Demands whatsoever touching or Concerning of the same &c.
one thousand siven hundred and Sixty before Isaac Handy Esqr. and others his Associates the said Lord Propry his Justices of ye. same County Court and for ye. Same Lord Propry doth give ye. Same Justices here to understand & be Informed that Alce Griffen Late of Coventry Parish in the said County of Somerset Spinster ye Sixteenth day of November in the Year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and fifty Nine at the Parish afd. in the County aforesaid did Commit fornication with a Certain Person unknown and did permit ye. same unknow Person to have Carnall Knowledge of her Body and a Bastard Child on ye> Body of her ye. said Alce then and there to Begit to the High Displeasure of Almighty God to ye. Evil Example of all others in Such Case offending Contrary to the Peace of the said Lord Propry that now is his good rule and government and against the form of the Act of Assembly in Such Case made and provided and so forth & Whereupon ye. Same Attorney of ye. same Lord Propry for ye. said Lord Propry Craves advice of ye Court here in ye. Premisses and that due Process of Lay may in this part be made against ye said Alce to answer of and upon ye. Premisses and so forth Thereupon it is Commanded ye Sherriffe of Somerset County that he Should take ye. said Alce Griffen &c. to Answer &c. And now to wit at a Court of his Lordship held at Princes Ann Town ye. third Tues: :day of November Anno Dom. one thousand Seven hundred and Sixty before ye. Justices thereof Came ye. afd. Alce Griffen in her proper person According to A Certain by her in that part before Acknowledged and had a hearing of ye. Information afd. saith that she Cannot deny but that she is guilty of ye. Premisses in ye. Information afd. above upon her Imposed in manner & form as by ye Information afd. above agt. her Supposed & is willing to pay her fine for ye. same &c. |
