Fear of God before his Eyes, but being moved and Seduced by ye. Instigation
of ye. Devil, on ye. thirtieth day of April in ye. Year of our Lord one thousand
Seven hundred and fifty nine at ye. parish afd. in ye. County afd. with force and
Arms in and upon A Certain Rachel Riggen of ye. Age of Forty three Years
then & there in ye. peace of God and of ye. said Lord Propry being Feloniously an
Assault did make, and her ye. said Rachel agt. her will and without her
Consent then & there forcibly and feloniously did ravish and Carnally
know against ye. peace of his said Lordship that now is his good rule &
government and against ye. form of ye. Statute in Such Case made and
Provided &c.
On ye. Back of ye. foregoing Bill of Indictment it was thus Indorsed Vizt

Commission    of Maryland & Avalon Lord Baron of Baltimore &c. to George

    Gale, Henry Lowes, Panter Laws & Levin Gilliss all of
Somerset County Gentleman Greeting know ye that we have Appointed you or any
                                                                                        on behalf
three or two of you to be our Commissioners to Examine Evidences ^ of a Certain
William Jones In relation to ye. bounds of a Certain Tract of Land Called
Mannings Resolution We therefore require you or any three or two of you at Some
                                                                     Shall Seem
time and place as to you or any three or two of you ^ Convenient you meet on ye.
afd. Land Called Mannings Resolution you first having taken your Oaths
On ye. Holy Evangels of Almighty God According to Act of Assembly in Such
Case made and provided & Then Cause to Come before you or any three or two
of you all Such Evidences as Shall be to you or any three or two of you

Nominated by ye. said Complainant ^ and Defendant and that you or any
three or two of you Examine them upon their Corporal Oaths to be by you or
Any three or two of you administred on ye. Holy Evangels of Almight God in
the presents of ye. Complainant or Deft. if any Touching the truth or rememb:
:rance of their Knowledge or anything that may related to the Cause afd.
And that reducing ye. Severall Depositions into Writing you Send YY.
Same with this Our Commission under Your or any three or two of your
Hands & Seals to us to our County Court of Somerset with all Convenient
Speed Witness Thomas Hayward Esqr. Chief Justice of our said Court
the 19th. Day of Novr. in ye. fourth Year of our Dominion And
Anno Domini 1754
Att A Court of his Lordhsip held at Princes Ann Town the third Tuesday of June
Anno Dom. one thousand Seven hundred & Sixty before ye. Justices thereof
Came PLawes and Levin Gilliss two of the gentleman Nominated in ye. within
Commission And returned ye. Same Indorsed in manner following &c
These are to Certifie that Panter Laws & Levin Gilliss was Duly Qualified
to Execute ye. within Commission Given under my hand this 17th. Day of Dec. 1754
