Somerset to wit George Buchannan Late of Somerset County Merchant & William Hamil
-ton Late of Somerset County Merchant were attached to answer unto John Scarborough
of a plea of Trespass upon the case & so forth    And Whereupon the said John by George
Douglas his Attorney complains that whereas the said George Buchannan & William Hamil-
-ton on the first day of October Anno Dom. MDCCL at the County afsd were Indebted to the said
John in the sum of twelve pounds ten shilings & seven pence lawfull money of the kingdom
of great Britain for the Matter in the account hereto annexed mentioned & so thereof Indebt
-ed being on consideration thereof afterwards to wit the day & year aforesaid at the county afore
-said upon themselves did assume & to the said John then & there promise that they the said
George and William the said Twelve pounds ten shilings & seven pence money aforesaid to
the said John when they should be thereto afterwards by the said John required would faithful-
-ly pay & content & whereas the said George & the said William afterwards to wit the day & year
last afsd: at the county aforesaid were Indebted to the said John in other Twelve pounds
ten shilings & seven pence money aforesaid for the like Sum of Money of Robert Rogers
& Robert Green before that Time for the use of the said John by the said George and Wil-
-liam had & received & so thereof Indebted being in consideration thereof afterwards to wit the day
& year last mentioned at the county afsd upon themselves did assume & to the said John then &
there faithfully promise that they the said George & William the said last named twelve
pounds ten shilings & seven pence money afsd: to the said John when they should be thereto
afterwards by the said John required would pay & Content Nevertheless the said George & William
their several promises & assumptions aforesaid in form aforesaid made not regarding but
plotting & fraudulently Intending the said John in that part craftily & subtilly to deceive &
defraud the said several Sums of money above mentioned or any part of either of them to
the said John have not paid nor hath either of them paid but that to do have altogether re-
-fused & each of them have refused & the Same to him to pay each of them still refuse altho
thereto Often severally afterwards required to the damage of the said John thirty pounds
lawfull Money of the kingdom of great Britain & thereof he brings suit & so forth pledges &c    J Doe

defend the force & Injury when &c. and pray leave thereof to Imparle here untill next Court
to be held at princess Ann Town the third tuesday of March then next following & they
have it & the same day is given to the afsd John Scarborough here also and so Forth
Att which day here Came as well the afsd: John Scarborough as the afsd George Buchanan & William Hamilton
by their Attorneys afsd: and hereupon the afsd George & William pray further Leave thereof to Imparle
here untill next Court To be held at princess Ann Town the third tuesday of June then next
following and they have it and the same day is given to the afsd: John here also & so Forth
Att which day here came as well the afsd John Scarborough as the afsd George Buchanan & William Hamilton
by their Attorneys afsd: and hereupon the afsd: George & William pray further Leave thereof to Imparle here
untill next Court to be held at princess Ann Town the third tuesday of August then next following &
they have it and the same day is given to the afsd John here also and so Forth
Att which day here came as well the afsd: John Scarborough as the afsd: George Buchanan & William
Hamilton by their Attorneys afsd and hereupon the afsd: George & William pray further leave thereof
to Imparle here untill next Court to be held at princess Ann Town the third tuesday of November
then next following & they have it & the same day is given to the afsd: John here Also &c
