therein Convict that then he the said John Should pay and Satisfie unto ye. afd. Robert Brown
the judgment of ye. Court thereupon or render his Body in Execution of Such judgment to ye.
Prison of ye. Sherriffe of ye. County afd. in satisfaction thereof or that he the said Levin Ballard
Will do ye. same for him &c.
And ye afd. John Covington by Littleton Dennis his attorney Comes and Defends ye.
force and Injury when &c. And prays Leave thereof to Imparle here untill next Court
to be held at Princes Ann Town ye third Tuesday of June then next following and
he hath it & ye. same day is given to ye. afd. Robert here also &c
Att which day here Came as well ye. afd. Robert as ye. afd. John by their Attys afd. and
hereupon ye. said John as before Defends ye force and Injury when &c. And Saith
that he Cannot deny ye. action afd. of ye. afd. Robert nor but that the Writing
obligatory afd. is ye Deed of him ye. said John Covington nor but that he owes ye Same
Robert Brown ye. afd. Sum of ten pounds Current money in manner and form
as ye afd. Robert above against him hath Declared nor Can he say but ye.
Same Robert Ought to recover his Damages agt. him by Occasion of ye.
Detention of that same Debt beyond his Costs and Charges by him about
his Suit in this part apposed to Eight shillings Current money and not
More and whereupon ye. said Robert prays judgment for his Debt afd.
And his Damages by Occasion of ye. Detention of that same Debt to him to be
adjudged &c.                  Therefore it is Considered that the afd. Robert Brown Recover
311       against the afd. John Covington his Debt afd. and his Damages by Occasion of the detention of that Same debt to Eight Shillings
Curt Money and                           Pounds of Tobacco to the Same Robert of his Assent by the Court here Adjudged and
the afd. John in Mercy &c.

WH    Henry Ward    Command was Given to ye. Sherriffe of Somerset County that

 vs    he should take John Covington Late of Somerset County Gent.
SW    John Covington    if he should be found in his Bailywick & him Should Safe keep
so that he might have his Body before ye. Justices of his Lordships County Court
of Somerset to be held at Princes Ann Town ye. third Tuesday of March Anno Dom.
One thousand Seven hundred & Sixty to Answer unto Henry Ward of a plea of
trespass upon ye. Case &c.
      And ye. Same day is Given to ye. afd. Henry here And so forth
Att which day here Came ye. afd. Henry Ward by William Hayward his attorney
And the sherriffe to wit John Dennis Gent. now here returned that he had

taken ye. afd. John Covington whose Body here at this day he ^ ready to answer ye.
afd. Henry Ward of ye. afd. Plea as to him it was Commanded
Whereupon ye. said John Covington at ye. Prayer of ye. afd. Henry Ward is
Adjudged to give Special Bail to ye. Action afd.
                                                               Thereupon A Certain
Levin Ballard of Somerset County Gentleman Present here in Court in his proper
person undertook for ye. said John Covington that if it should happen that
Judgment in ye. plea afd. Should be rendered for ye. said Henry agt. ye. afd. John
or that he ye. said John should be therein Convict that then he ye. said John should
pay and satisfie unto ye. afd. Henry ye Judgment of ye. Court thereupon or
Render his Body in Execution of Such judgment to ye Prison of ye sherriffe
                                                                                                    Ballard
of ye. County afd. in Satisfaction thereof or that the the said Levin ^ will do ye.
