WH    Robert Brown    Command was Given to ye. Sherriffe of Somerset County that

 vs    he Should take John Covington Late of Somerset County
SW    John Covington    Gent. otherwise Called I if he should be found in his Baily
wick & him Should Safe keep so that he might have his Body before the Justices of his
Lordships Justices of our County Court of Somerset to be held at Prince Ann Town ye.
third Tuesday of March Anno Dom. one thousand seven hundred and sixty to Answer
unto Robert Brown of a plea that he render him ten pounds current money of
Maryland which to him he owes and unjustly Detains &c.
   And ye. Same day is Given to ye. afd. Robert here & so forth
And hereupon ye. said Robert Declared against ye. afd. John Covington in ye. plea
afd. in form following
Somerset fst John Covington Late of Somerset County Gent. otherwise Called
I was Summoned to Answer unto Robert Brown of a plea that he render him ten
pound Current money of Maryland which to him he owes and unjustly Detains
& so forth
And whereupon ye. said Robert by Wm. Hayward his Attorney Says that whereas ye.
said John the xxvii day of February Anno Dom. MDCCLIX at ye Dorchester
County to wit at Somerset County afd. by his Certain Bill obligatory which
with the seal of ye. afd. John Sealed &c. said Robert to the Court here Shews whose
the Date whereof is ye. Same day and Year Did Promise and oblige himself to pay
unto ye. afd. Robert Brown ye. Sum of ten pounds Current money of Maryland at or before
the tenth day of February next Ensuing ye. Date of ye. Bill afd. for value recd. to the
true payment whereof ye. said John Bound himself on ye. Day & Year first afd. firmly
by ye. Bill afd. Nevertheless ye. said John tho often required ye. afd. ten pounds Current
Money afd. unto ye. said Robert hath not paid or him for ye same in any sort contented
(Altho the same to do ye. same John on ye. day & Year Last afd. and often Since at ye.
County afd. by ye. said Robert was required) but the same to him to pay hitherto hath
refused and Still doth refuse and unjustly Detain whereupon ye. said Robert
Says he is worse & hath Damage to the Value of fifteen pounds Current money of
Maryland & thereof he brings Suit &c.
                          Pledges &c. J. Doe & R. Roe
A Copy of ye. foregoing declaration was made and Sent to be Served on ye. Deft. in order for
Speedy Tryall       Att which day here Came as well ye. afd. Robert Brown by Wm. Hayward
his Atty & ye. Sherriffe to wit John Dennis Gent. now here returned that he had taken ye. afd.
John Covington whose Body here at this day he had ready to answer ye. afd. Robt. Brown
of the afd. Plea as to him it was Command & further ye. Same Sherriffe returned that he
had Served ye. afd. John Covington with a Copy of ye. foregoing declaration according to
Act of Assembly in Such Case provided &c.
Whereupon ye. John Covington at ye. prayer of ye. afd. Robert Brown is adjudged to
Give special Bail to ye Action afd. Thereupon a certain Levin Ballard of
Somerset County Gent Present herein Court in his proper person undertook for
the said John Covington that if it Should happen that judgment in ye. plea afd. Should
be rendered for ye. said Robert against ye. afd. John or that he ye. said John Should
