                                      Be it Remembred that on the thirty first day of January in the Year of our Lord one
thousand Seven hundred Sixty and three personally appeared before me the subscriber one of his Lordships
Justices of the provincial Court Littleton Dennis and Quallifyed as deputy Surveyor of Somerset County by
Taking the Severall Oaths directed by act of assembly To the Government and Repeating the Test and sub
scribing To the Oath of Abjuration & Test And I further certify that at the Same Time he Took the following
Oath To wit    you Littleton Dennis do swear that you will well and faithfully Serve his Lordship the
Lord proprietary in the office of Deputy Surveyor of Somerset County that you will Increase no fees
but be Content with the fees limitted by Law and in all things well & Truly behave yourself in
your office according To the Best of your Skill and knowledge during your Continuance in the
said office or untill you shall Lawfully be discharged thereof So help you God    In Testimony Where

Safe keep so that he might have his body before the Justices of his Lordships County Court of Somerset to be held at
Princes Ann Town the third Tuesday of March Anno Dom. 1763 to Answer unto Michael Thorp of a plea
of trespass upon the Case &^c. And the Same day is given to the af^d. Michael here &^c.
           Att which day here Came the af^d. Michael Thorp by Sam^l. Wilson his Attorney and the Sheriff to witt
Ephraim Wilson now here Returned that he had taken the af^d. John Rickets whose body here at this day he had
Ready to Answer the af^d. Michael Thorp of the af^d. plea as to him it was Commanded
        And hereupon the Said Michael Thorp Complained Against the af^d. John Rickets in the plea af^d. in form
following    Somerset fs^t John Records Late of Somerset County Planter was Attached to Answer unto Michael
Thorp of a plea of trespass upon the Case and So forth    And Whereupon the Said Michael by Samuel Wilson
his Attorney Complains that whereas the Said John Records on the Seventh day of Feb^ry Anno Dom. MDCCLXii at
the County af^d. was Indebted to the Said Michael in the Sum of Twelve pounds Eighteen Shillings and ten pence Current
Money of Maryland for the Articles and things in the Account hereto Annexed Mentioned and Specified and So thereof
indebted being the Said John Records in Consideration thereof Afterwards to wit the Same day and Year af^d. at the County
af^d. upon himself did Assume and then and there faithfully Promise that he the Said John the Sum of Money af^d. when
he Should be thereto Afterwards Required would well and truly pay and Content and altho the Said John hath Since
paid unto the Said Michael the Sum of three pounds thirteen Shillings Cur^t Money af^d. part of the af^d. Sum of Twelve
pounds Eighteen Shillings and ten pence Cur^t Money af^d. Yet as to Nine pounds five Shillings and ten pence Current
Money af^d. Residue of the af^d. Sum of Twelve Pounds Eighteen Shillings and ten pence Current Money af^d. the Said John
Records his promise and Assumption af^d. in form af^d. made Little Regarding but fraudulently intending the Said Michael
in that part Craftily and Subtilly to deceive and defraud the Sum of Money af^d. Residue af^d. unto the Said Michael
hath not paid or him for the Same in Any Sort Contented Altho the Same to do the Said John afterwards to wit the Same
day and Year af^d. and often Since at the County af^d. was Required but the Same to him to pay hitherto altogether hath
Refused and Still doth Refuse and Unjustly deny Whereupon the Said Michael Says he is the Worse and
hath Damage to the Value of Twenty Pounds and therefore he brings Suit &^c.    Pledges of Pros.    J. Doe
