Somerset County Judicial Records, 1760-1763

   June Court                 1760                    11
Proclamation being made the sherriffe of Somerset County returned a pannell of Grand
Jurors to Inquire for his Lordship and the Body of this County of Somerset as
follows Vizt William Miles, John Piper, Isaac Atkinson, Francis White, Wm.
Furnis, Jonathan Tull, Robt. Dashiell, Aaron Starling, John Collins, Jarvis Ballard,
Joseph Weatherly, Arnold Elzey, Mathias Coston, David Hopkins, Jno. Cottingham
Phillip Covington, Joshua Hitch, John Weatherly, John McGrath & Wm. Roach
who being severally Called over by their names do appear as above and were sworn and charged

and were sent out to Consider soon after the Grand Jurors afd. so as afd. Impa^nelled charged
and sworn returned here into Court & being again severally Called over returned to the
Court here the following Presentments & Indictments agt Mary More, Jonathan Roach
Wm. Hath, David Jenckins, Early Wright and that against Negro Jacob & Teresa
Covington Ignoramus       Thereupon the Grand Jurors afd. is discharged and allowed
Four hundred Pounds of Tobacco for their service this Court and that against
                                                                                                        and
Mary More, Wm. Hath, David Jenckins & Early Wright Present & Indicted ^ it is
ordered that Capias Issue returnable to August next &c.

Ordered that William Hayward Prosecutor of his Lordships pleas in Somerset County
Order & Direct the Issuing out all such summonses as he shall think Necessary
to Testify to the grand jury agt any person or persons Whatsoever &c.

Allexr Maddux    To the Wordshipfull the Justices of Somerset County In Court now sitting
   Petition    the Humble Petition of Allexander Maddux most humbly showeth
&c. Whereas your Petitioner is Possest. with a Tract or parcell of Land Called Greenfield
And the Bounderys being Almost decayed and the Witnesses to prove the same aged and
Infirm most humbly Prays Your Worships to appoint Commissioners to Examine
Wittness in relation to the boundreys of the said land or of any other lands on which the
Same Lands may Depend       And your Petitioner as in Duty Bound will ever
   Pray &c                                                           Alexr. Maddux
Whereupon Came here into Court the afd. Petitioner in his proper person and thereupon
the Petition afd. being read & heard and fully understood it is Considered by the Court here
that a Commission Issue to the afd. Alexr Maddux as by the Petition afd. is praid and
   Samuel Adams
that ^ Edward Waters, John Broughton & Teague Riggen of Somerset County Gent.
be Commissioners and Execute the same Commission according to Act of Assembly
in such Case provided &c.

Henry Lowes Junr.    To the worshipfull Justices of Somerset County Henry Lowes
   Petition    Junr. shweith that he is possessed of three tracts of Land one

other

  ^ Called Improvement & one other Called Grandfathers Care
the Boundaries whereof are precarious and very much Decayed and the Evidences to
perpetuate the same antient and infirm your Petitioner therefore humbly
Prays your worships to grant him a Commission and appoint Commissioners
to Examine Evidences to perpetuate the Boundaries of the Lands of any other
