day of August Anno Dom. MDCCLXI before Isaac Handy Esqr. and his Associates the Said Lord Propry his Justices of the Same County Court and for the Same Lord Propry doth Give the Same Justices here to understand and be Informed that Elizth. Simpson Late of Stepney Parish in the Said County of Somerset Spinster the xxiv day of August in the Year of our Lord One thousand Seven hundred and Sixty at the Parish afd. in the County afd. did Commit Fornication with a Certain Person unknown and did permit the Same unknown person to have Carnal knowledge of her body and a Bastard Child on the body of her the Said Elizabeth then and there to beget to the high displeasure of Almighty God to the Evil Example of all others in Such Case offending Contrary to the peace of the Said Lord Propry that now is his Good Rule and Government and Against the form of the Act of Assembly in Such Case made and Provided and So forth Whereupon the Same Attorney of the Same Lord Propry prays Advice of the Court here in the Premisses and that due Process of Law may in this part be made Against the Said Elizth. to Answer of and upon the Premisses and So forth Thereupon it is Commanded the Sheriff of Somerset County that he Should take the Said Elizabeth Simpson if &c to Answer &c And now to witt at a Court of his Lordship held at Princes Ann Town the third Tuesday of August being the Eighteenth day of the Same Month Anno Dom. One thousand Seven hundred and Sixty one before the Justices thereof Came the afd. Elizabeth Simpson in her Proper Person and had a hearing of the Information afd. Saith that She Cannot deny but that She is Guilty of the Premisses in the Information afd. Above Against her Supposed and Maketh Oath that a Certain James Dashiell is the father of the Bastard Child She Stands Informed Against and is Willing to Give Sery Whereupon all and Singular the Premisses being Seen and by the Court fully understood it is Considered by the Court here that the afd. Elizth. Simpson for the Offence afd. Specified be taken which Said Elizth. Simpson is fined for the offence afd. the Sum of thirty Shillings Curt Money &c. Whereupon the Said Elizth Simpson is ordered to Give Sery. for the payment of the fine afd. Thereupon the Said Elizth. Simpson with Wm. Kennelly of Somerset County her Sery both present here in Court in their Proper persons Acknowledged themselves Indebted unto his Lordship the Lord Propry in three pounds Curt Money of their bodys Goods or Chattles Lands and tenements Joyntly and Severally to the use of his Said Lordship his heirs and Successors to be made and Levied if it happen that the Said Elizth. Simpson do not pay to the Justices of Somerset County the Sum of thirty Shillings Curt Money of Maryland on or before the Eighteenth day of August which Shall be in the Year One thousand Seven hundred and Sixty Two for her fine for fornication &c.
