RESOLUTIONS.

lished by the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Company, and
the Baltimore and Susquehanna Rail Road Company, were
originally intended to be temporary, and are adapted only
to the present unfinished condition of those works, and re-
quire immediate alteration for the advancement of trade,
the good of the public, and the augmentation of the reve-
nue; Therefore,
Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the
consent of this General Assembly is hereby given to such
alterations or regulations of the tolls charged by said com-
panies, respectively, as the president and directors thereof
shall from time to time propose; Provided, the same shall
be sanctioned and approved by a majority of the commis-
sioners appointed to represent the State in the said compa-
nies; and provided also, that nothing herein contained shall
be so construed as to authorise said companies to make any
discrimination in the toll upon manufactured and unmanu-
factured grain; and provided also, that nothing herein con-
tained, shall be so construed as to authorise said companies
to receive the tolls beyond the sum allowed in their original
charters.

certain Papers and Documents.

and important papers and documents properly belonging to
the Executive and other departments, which have been de-
posited, or may now be found in various parts of the public
buildings, in an unarranged and useless state, and subject
to be lost or destroyed; and whereas, the rescue, arrange-
ment, and preservation of such papers, may be of great im-
portance to public and private interests, and necessary and
interesting to the history of the State;— Therefore,
Resolved, That the Governor and Council be, and they
are hereby authorised to appoint some suitable nnd compe-
tent person or persons, whose duty it shall be to examine
every part of the public buildings, where there may be
reason to believe any papers or documents, properly be-
longing to the Executive, or any other department, may be
