CHAP 299

Exemption in case
of contracting

Sec 4 And be it enacted, That When the said, roads,
any section thereof, may be placed under contract as afore
said, that all and every person or persons now required to
wotk, or furnish bands to work on said roads, or such
sections so placed out on contract, be, and they are here

Proviso

by exempt from such obligation, Provided always, that
no more or greater Bum shall be paid to any contractor for
keeping in repair any section or portion of any of said roads
than double the sum now allowed and paid to the overseers
of the same unless the said levy court shall, in the exercise
of their discretionary power here given, contract for the re
pairs of the whole of the public roads in said county

An act to provide for the augmentation of the Sinking Fund
and the gradual payment of the Public Debt

part

Section 1 Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Ma
ryland, That so much of the ninth sectron of an act, passed
at December session, eighteen hundred and thirty two
chapter one hundred and seventy five, as directs the trea
surer of the Western Shore of Maryland to invest annually
all and any monies which, in pursuance of the eighth sec
tron of said act, shall he received into the treasury, together
with aby interest that should accrue thereon, in some pro
ductive stock, to form a sinking fund for the payment of the
interest and redemption of the principal of the certificate

of the State stock therein mentioned, as the same might
fall due, shall be and hereby is repealed— and that all and
any monies which, in pursuance of the eighth or other tec-
tion of said act, may be hereafter received into the trea

meet the ordinary expenses of it e government, Provided
that the revenue of every sort, annually received into the
treasury from the Baltimore and Washington Rail Road
shall, nevertheless, be applied by the treasurer to the pay
