CHAP 294.

CHAPTER 294

Passed Mar 9, 1835

An act authorising a Lottery to raise a sum of money to
purchase a Fire Apparatus, and for the improvement of
the Town of Bel Air in Harford County.

Persons authorised

Section 1 Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Ma-
ryland, That it shall and may be lawful for Joseph Robin-
son, Stephen Jones, James Wallace, William B Bond, Israel
D Maulsby, Thomas A. Hayes, William J McIlheney, John
McKenny, Samuel Bradford, Henry Dorsey of Edward,
Elijah J Bond, Otho Scott, Aquilla P Moores, Robert W
Holland, Alexander Norns, and Henry D Gough, or a ma-
jority of them, to propose a scheme or schemes of a lottery,

the drawing of such lottery to be completed within two
years from the passage of this act, to raise a sum of money

Dispose of tickets

not exceeding six thousand dollars, and to sell and dispose
of the tickets thereof, Provided, the said Joseph Robinson,
Stephen Jones, James Wallace, William B Bond, Israel D
Maulsby, Thomas A Hayes, William J McIlheney, Samuel
Bradford, Henry Dorsey of Edward, Elihjah J Bond, Otho
Scott, Aquilla P Moores, Robert W Holland, Alexander
Norns, and Hemy D Gough, or such majority of them as
shall undertake to act under this law, shall, belore the dis

posal of any ticket or tickets in said lottery give their bond
to the State of Maryland, in the penally of twelve thousand
dollars, to be approved by one of the judges of Harford
County Court, conditioned that they will, within three
months after the completion of the said drawing of said lot-

tery, pay to the treasurer of the Western Shore of Maryland,
five per cent upon the sum raised, and well and truly apply
so much of the money arising from the sale of the tickets
in said scheme or schemes, within six months after the
drawing of said lottery shall commence, as will satisfy the

fortunate adventurers for prizes drawn by them, and after
deducting the necessary expenses incurred in said lottery,
shall, within two years from the completion of the diawing
of said lottery, cause the balance of the money raised by

and other property in said town, as they may deem most
