CHAP. 250

CHAPTER 250.

Passed Mar. 19, 1835

An act for the Incorporation of the Old Town Lyceum.

Corporation crea-

ted, &c

Section 1 Be it enforced by the General Assembly of Ma-
ryland, That William Evans, Elias P Leaman, Jacob
Grape, William H Bangs, Caleb W Burgess, Henry Pol
lock, Alexander Crook, and their associates and successors
be and they are hereby created a corporation and body
politic, by the same and style of the Old Town Lyceum,
and by that name shall have perpetual succession, and shall
be able and capable in law to sue and be sued plead and be
impleaded answer and be answered in any court of law or
equity, to make and use a common seal, and the same to
alter and charge at pleasure, to ordain and establish such
by laws and regulations not contrary to law as shall be ne-
cessary or convenient for conducing the affairs of the cor-
poration

Objects specified

Sec 2 And be it enacted, That the objects of this corpo-
ration are declared to be the improvements of its members
in literature and the arts and sciences, by providing a mu-
seum and library, together with such buildings and other
conveniences and appurtenances as may be iound necessary
to carry the purposes of the corporatron into full and com
plete effect

Sec 3 And be it enacted, That the said corporation shall
be able and capable in law to purchase, receive and hold
estate in fee simple or any less estate and personal property
Provided, the clear annual income of all such estate and
property, shall not exceed two thousand dollars

Sec. 4 And be it enacted, That there shall be a meeting
of the members of the said ccrporation, in January of each
and every year after the oresent year, for the purpose of
electing a president, vice president, secretary, assistant sec-
retary, and treasurer and twelve Directors, who together shall
constitute a board of directors to manage the concerns of the
corporation, all of whom shall be elected by ballot, a majori-
ty of the members present at any stated or specral meeting

By laws, &c.

of the corporation, shall have power to pass any by law and
regulations as may to deemed necessary for the transaction
of the business of said corporation, provided, the same be
not contrary to the laws of this State, or of the United
States.
