An act to Incorporate the Philocretan Society, of Baltimore
|

Corporation crea-
ted
|
Section 1 Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary
land, That the members of the Philocretan Society of Bal-
timore, and all those who shall hereafter become members,
shall be, and they are hereby incorporated and created a body
|
|
|
|
Title
|
politic, by the name, style, and title of The Philocretan Society
of Baltimore, and by that name shall have continual succes-
sion, and be able and capable in law to sue and be sued, to
implead and be impleaded, in any court of record or else
|
|
|
|
General power.
|
where, to make, have, and use a common seal, and the
same at pleasure to alter and renew, to purchase, receive,
and hold property, both real and personal, and the same to
dispose or, in such manner as may be deemed most conve-
nient for the interest of the corporation, and, generally, to
|
|
|
|
Limitation
|
do all such acts, matters and things, as are, or shall be ne
cessary, for the purpose of moral and intellectual improve
merit, by means of lectures, discussions, readings and the
purchasing of a library and such apparatus as may be ne
cessary for the purposes herein mentioned, Provided always,
that the value of such property shall not at any time exceed
five thousand dollars

Officers.
|
Sec 2 And be it enacted, That the affairs of the said
Society shall be conducted and managed by a President,
and such other officers, and in such manner, as the by laws,
to be made as herein directed, shall authorise and provide,
and until such by laws shall be enacted and made, the pre
sent officers of the said Society, to wit —Charles Worth
ington, Junior, President, Gerard I Hopkins, first Vice
President, Alexander M Carter, second Vice President,
Charles I Lucas, Recording Secretary, William Roney,
Junior, Corresponding Secretary, and Philip W Lowry,
Treasurer, shall conduct the affairs of the Society confor-
mably to the constitution and articles, formed and agreed
